Gallery Information
-
I’ve read everything that search turned up on ‘Gallery’ but still cannot find my answer. Can anyone tell me exactly what a ‘gallery’ is and how it works on wp.com? I want to be able to add a number of thumbs to a post that then links to a gallery where readers can see the full size images. However when I add ‘gallery’ to a post it just duplicates the images that are already there. I figure that the gallery function doesn’t do what I expxected it to. From what I read, the only advantage of ‘gallery’ is to add a group of images from one post to another post. Is this correct? If so, why would someone want to add the same images to two different posts?

If you insert a gallery into a post, you have your pictures as thumbnails that will open in one of two ways:
on an attachment page, which is formated as your post page with sidebar, header, etc.
Or as a full sized image. You might want duplicate images if you want a page to put all all your pictures. In that case you would attach the pictures from each of your posts on that page as galleries.
as discussed here:

So don’t use the Gallery feature, which automatically inserts thumbnail images that when clicked open either the full-sized image or an attachment page.
Just insert thumbnail images from the Image Uploader/Media Library tab whose hyperlink then points to the Page where you’ve inserted the full-size images.
Just be warned that “full-size” doesn’t mean the full sized image itself, but “full-size” for your theme. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/
