Gallery not working properly
-
Hi. I’ve been in “chat” with support for more than a half-hour but no one is replying, so I will just paste here what I wrote in the chat box:
→I am having problems with my gallery here http://cassandrakeenan.com/paintings/. Certain paintings in the gallery don’t show up while viewing the images. Also, certain images that I did not even include in the gallery for some reason show up when you are viewing it. It’s totally frustrating. I’ve been trying to resolve this for almost an hour. Try looking at the gallery. You’ll find images are missing, but you’ll see ones I didn’t event add. And yes, I CLEANED MY COOKIES AND CACHED DATA AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK.
→it seems like I can’t do anything on WordPress without encountering big problems.
→seriously, every time I try to do something I have to contact support. A few days ago I purchased a domain after getting an upgrade but the URL went live on the wrong blog. That has since been resolved.
→I also forgot to mention that when I am viewing my gallery, the images don’t match the order in which I put them.
→Really, I am going to be sending my URL to gallery owners and need a site that functions properly. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. I’ve been in “chat” with support for more than a half-hour but no one is replying
Understand that there are ten of thousands of wordpress.com hosted bloggers and waiting a 1/2 hour for a response to any support request is not long at all. There is no such thing as instant support. Your support requests are in a queue for Staff and they answer support tickets and threads in datestamp order so you need to be patient while waiting.
-
the WordPress chat page for contacting help stopped working properly after abut 45 minutes, so I sent an email.
-
Okay then. All you need to do is wait for Staff to answer the email support requests they received prior to yours and then they will answer yours.

Sometimes it takes days to get a response. As I explained above Staff work through all email support tickets in order of the datestamps on them and you are in a queue waiting for them to work their way forward to your request for help. After they serve all those who emailed prior to the date on your email they will email you. Posting here is not helpful because it’s an ineffectual redundant request.
-
I’m sorry I’m redundant, and you’re right, but I am extremely frustrated with using WordPress because hardly anything works the way it should. Also, I did not think it would take days for me to post a gallery and have it actually work, not to mention all the time trying to troubleshoot and contact support. It’s interesting that your user name is timethief, because WordPress can definitely be one. That was a joke. Anyway, thank you.
-
I’m not joking when I say that if we email Staff for Support they work through all the support tickets in datestamp order, and there’s nothing either you or I can do to change that.

I just noticed that my gallery titled Collages that I posted about a week ago is not working properly, either http://cassandrakeenan.com/collage/ Thanks

FYI, rather than waiting for who knows how much longer, I enabled the carousel option in my settings for galleries, and it seems to work fine like that. Still, I would much rather not use the carousel setting since the images are smaller and the details in my paintings get lost because I use dark colors. I’m not sure what I am going to do going into the future in terms of sticking with WordPress. I made a post about this incident on a private Facebook group page for artists in my area, and they all told me to get a Wix account, even though it involves a small monthly fee. So I am planning to do that as soon as I am able. Thanks for everything. Have a nice day. So I don’t need any more “help” at this point.

I’m not Staff, but I will say that using the default Photo Carousel on Galleries is the better way to view images posted in a Gallery. (In my opinion and I do work a lot with the Gallery feature.) The Photo Carousel eliminates a lot of the problems one can encounter if you choose Attachment pages (like the one you mention of the images not appearing in the correct order).
This is the short answer. If you want the long, technical answer, let me know, but here too, it might be a few days before I can reply. We are having continual power outs due to thunderstorms and posting from my netbook is a PITA.
You can choose either a white or black background in the Photo Carousel, if that helps with image display for your images/site, and the Carousel resizes itself to suit the monitor it is being viewed on. You can test this yourself by resizing your browser window. Go Full screen and then resize the browser window.

@tt, not a problem. :)
@staboo- where you choose to set up your website is, of course, a very personal choice. I am not unbiased, but do please check very carefully your options and what your choices are on those platforms should you grow and decide to move elsewhere. WordPress.com makes it very easy to do. The other platform you mentioned, not so much.
Best wishes no matter where you decide to set up.

Thanks, justjennifer. I agree that I would have to put considerably more work into setting up a site at Wix, which honestly, I am not looking forward to as I’d rather spend my time in my art studio. I actually would rather use WordPress for that reason because much of the setup is already taken care of, but I have had so many frustrating experiences here. I frequently encounter glitches, and it seems I can’t do a whole lot without having to contact support. Why is it so much trouble posting an image gallery? I mean, that’s a very basic blog function. Also, thanks for your advice re: galleries. I am going to reluctantly use the carousel setting for the short term. But I really need to find a way for people to scroll through my images and see them larger than a carousel allows. If people can’t get a good sense of my paintings, then I think it is pointless to put them in a gallery on this site. -Cassandra

You:

To the best of my knowledge, I can’t conveniently view any image larger than the screen size of the device I’m viewing it on. That’s true regardless of site. Me:
and the Carousel resizes itself to suit the monitor it is being viewed on.
If your site visitors want to see the full size image, a link is provided in the Carousel which opens the image in a new tab. What happens next really depends on browser settings.
Personally, unless you scan or photograph your paintings at really high resolution and display them quite a bit larger than you currently are, I would think it very hard to display paintings on a monitor. As you mention on your site, it really doesn’t do them justice.

So, that being the case, it really won’t make any difference what site you post your images on.
Again, best wishes from me.
