Gallery photos are appearing in wrong order
-
Thanks for those details. The issue that you’re running into is that reordering the gallery after uploading the images will put the gallery into a different order from the image attachments on the post, so the links on the attachment pages won’t necessarily match the order in your gallery. (As mentioned earlier, the attachment pages aren’t a gallery feature — they’re a separate feature to show all the images attached to the post.)
The best way to line up your galleries with the order of the attachment pages is to upload the photos in the same order you want them to appear in your gallery, and not reorder them afterwards.

OK. I want to try your suggestion for a few posts which will take a few days or a week or so. Can you please not close this thread until I have a chance to test it and get back to you?
I will need a new photo management program that lets you drag thumbnails to re-order them to your liking. I have five photo programs and three file managers, none of which can do this and I have never run across one that can.

Sure thing. I won’t close this thread, and it won’t automatically close until a month or so has gone by without any replies. Once you’ve had a chance to try it out, please let me know how it goes for you. :)

Hello, same problem on my page: http://www.moseke-pelda.de
In Art you see pictures at the attachment page that do not belong to the gallery.
E.g.
Art -> concept: click on the first picture and than on the attachment page click on the previous button. You can see a pictures not belonging to the gallery. This happens on a new and fresh installation also…
But why?? -
I will need a new photo management program that lets you drag thumbnails to re-order them to your liking. I have five photo programs and three file managers, none of which can do this and I have never run across one that can.
Windows XP allows reordering of images by dragging and dropping images within a folder, as well as dragging and dropping the folders themselves.
Picasa 3 allows dragging and dropping of images in a folder. Changes made to the order of images within folders at Picasa 3 will be reflected in the order of images within folders at Windows XP, and vice versa.

Ifranview allows drag-and-drop reordering of thumbnails. I could swear xplorer2 (file manager) did it too, when you choose “Unsorted” but right now I can’t get it to work.

Your solution does not work. I uploaded entirely new photos, made an entirely new post and entirely new gallery and did not reorder anything and STILL when you click through the gallery photos you end up at photos WHICH ARE NOT IN THAT GALLERY AT ALL AND NEVER WERE.
Please note I am not talking about the *order* of the photos I am talking about photos appearing which I never added to the gallery in the first place.
The test post is at http://richardjkarty.wordpress.com/2014/12/20/draft-ingore-this/ but I can’t publish it because I don’t want my subscribers to see it.

I’m sorry that didn’t work for you. I’ll do some further testing with the Blogum theme you’re using and pass your feedback on to our team.
However, I want to reiterate that galleries and attachment pages are separate features and may not fully match up in terms of functionality and appearance. I’ll certainly let our team know what’s going on with the attachment pages so they can take another look, but I can’t promise that they will change how the attachment pages currently work in this theme.

rachelmcr,
Please stop posting vague and incorrect hunches and claiming that they are solutions. Either you know the answer and understand the feature in question or you don’t. If you don’t, and want to post a *guess* at a solution, please identify it as such.
I greatly appreciate your time and consideration but underinformed *intentions* to help are not the same thing as true solutions.
I am trying to communicate that this is a disservice because it leads people to believe they have a solution when they don’t, which only increases the frustration.
The replies here would have been better phrased as:
“I don’t understand how galleries connect to the photos they link to, but I do know it’s not a logical one-to-one connection in the way other websites work, and which the gallery function leads one to believe. Maybe try uploading photos in the precise order you wish them to appear and see if that does anything.”
Meanwhile I remain dumbfounded as to what kind of person sets up a blogging platform where a series of thumbnails simply doesn’t link to that series of photos. Surely this issue was solved, technologically, a decade ago.

Hey there,
I’m jumping in now. Hopefully that old adage about “too many cooks” won’t apply here.
I’ve been testing your site, and testing this issue on a test site. Your gallery/slideshow is behaving oddly, that’s for sure.
I am going to speak to our developers to see if they have a solution for you. In the meantime, please don’t delete your draft (http://richardjkarty.wordpress.com/2014/12/20/draft-ingore-this/). I want some other folks to see it.
As it’s the holiday long weekend, I suspect this will be addressed toward the beginning of next week.
If you have a moment, take a look at the three images that display in your draft’s slideshow. Notice that they are all appearing as unattached images here:
https://richardjkarty.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?mode=list
If you are not using them, is it possible to delete them? And if you are using the images on another page or post, would you click Attach in the “Uploaded to” column and choose the correct post? Let me know if attaching these extraneous images impacts your situation at all.
In the meantime, I’m going to keep working on this for you. I understand why you’re frustrated, and I certainly want to alleviate that with the help of our developers.
I’ll be in touch the moment I have an answer for you — and please do drop me a note if you discover any changes after attaching/deleting those extraneous images.
Many thanks. Wishing you a happy (gallery glitch-free) new year.

Hello there!
Thanks so much for checking in.
We found you a solution. It’s a bit of a workaround. Technically, a progression of attachment pages is not considered a gallery. So, the methodology that creates a logical and finite progression of images in our carousels, will not work in the same way in the manner in which you want to display your images.
However! I think we’ve come up with an answer that will suit your needs Take a look at the draft post I created for you, and preview it to see how the ‘gallery’ works:
What I had to do to make this work was upload the images, in the order you wanted them displayed, DIRECTLY into the post.
If you upload the images into your media library first, and then add them to your post, they won’t work in the same manner. While the aforementioned method will work for the creation of our traditional galleries (carousels, slideshows), it won’t work the same way for your attachment page ‘gallery.’
If you want to keep the draft post I created, you can give it a new title, and publish it.
If you’d prefer to use your older post, you’ll have to delete your existing gallery, and then upload the images directly into a gallery in your post.
Let me know how this works out for you. Please do let me know! Thanks again. :)
