Gallery slider height in McKinley
-
Hi,
I need some help with adjusting the height of the gallery sliders on the McKinley theme. Right now it seems like it crops the pictures to 500px. Is it possible to modify that via CSS, so it keeps the actual height of the pictures?
Thanks in advance.

The image slider will size the image to the maximum width for the theme, up to 900px wide for portrait images, or 900px in height for landscape. You can turn comments off, and hide the camera data and have more height available for the images (up to 900px), but there really isn’t anyway to change the size that shows in the viewport on the carousel.

Hi again @thesacredpath,
I don’t mean about the carousel, that work perfectly fine. I mean the gallery post format in mcKinley theme. The flexslider stuff used in that post format is really nice. It reminds me the anthem theme. The thing is, while in anthem, the pictures were not cropped, in McKinley are.
So my question is if it is possible to change that behaviour through some CSS. Sorry if my initial post wasnt clear enough.
Cheers,
Omar. -
Hi Omar, to make sure I’m understanding you correctly, can you give me a link to a post or page that you are talking about?

Right now I don’t have that theme on my blog, but in the demo site you can see how the gallery post format behaves. The height is a fixed 500px, so for portrait oriented pictures is not very useful. For example, this: http://mckinleydemo.wordpress.com/2014/01/15/lots-of-bicycles/
Still, I like that kind of gallery slider, hence my question.. :)

Ah, now I see what you are talking about. The sizes for those are set in the theme PHP script files and we cannot alter those, so the 500px height is it, I’m afraid.

Thanks for having a look @thesacredpath That’s what I thought. I really like that kid of slider for galleries. I might return to anthem at some point, I think.
Cheers,

Hey Casagan,
How about using a child theme and adding the following to the custom css. I just picked a random height :) Hope that’s what you meant?element.style {
width: 100%;
height: 900px;

Hi @igetpro, we can’t use child themes here at WordPress.com, they can only be used on self-hosted WordPress.org installations.
See here for more on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
