Gallery stacking
-
Hello,
I am having trouble with galleries at the moment. I’m thinking it might be due to a recent update as it wasn’t a problem a few weeks ago?
When putting in two portrait photos and selecting 2 columns, I would expect them to be side by side, but they are showing as stacked in both the desktop and mobile views.
The link for an example:
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
I’ll be happy to help.
This is most likely happening because you’ve set up 1 column for your image settings. To have your images show up side by side, you’ll have to change the number of columns in your gallery settings.
I found a guide here that can guide you through that.
Please bear in mind also that, though your site was built with WordPress software downloaded from WordPress.org, it is hosted on Bluehost. This forum provides support to sites that are only hosted on WordPress.com.
To understand the difference: WordPress.com is a cloud-based platform that hosts and manages WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is a website-building software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.
In case it helps, you can learn more about the difference here: https://wordpress.com/com-vs-org/.
For help with WordPress.org sites, I’d recommend reaching out to their support forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.
I hope this helps. Have a good one :)

Hi @nuk4040,
Ah, I’ve always been confused by the .org vs .com.
Thanks for your response, but unfortunately it hasn’t helped. All of the affected galleries are set to 2 columns and are still stacking.
I’ll take a look at the .org site to see if there is anything there that can help.
Many thanks,

Hey Rachel, galleries can also be affected by your theme, and by the size of your display. So if you’re on a phone, for example, galleries will probably automatically stack just so folks can see the images.
For further help with this, you’ll want to check in with your theme support, or if you’re using a plugin to make your galleries, check in with them. I hope this helps!

Hi @supernovia thanks for your reply.
The stacking happens on both mobile and desktop so I don’t think the problem is the size of the display. That and it wasn’t doing this before the 6.1 update, so it’s a new issue.
I’m not using any extra plugin for my galleries, but I suppose it could be how my theme is interacting with the updates…

Hello there,
It could very well be the theme.
I would advise checking if there’s an update available for this theme.
