Gallery tab no longer in my edit post screen-can no longer insert slideshows

  • Unknown's avatar

The ‘Gallery’ tab has disappeared from the ‘Add Media’ section of editing a post. I uploaded photos from my computer, as I always do, and when I went to add the slideshow and gallery to the post, as I always do, there is no more gallery tab to do so-just the media library tab! I went to an older post’s edit screen to see if the gallery tab was there and it has disappeared from all my posts! Please help-I have always attached a slideshow and gallery to *every* post I write, so I am not new at this. Has something changed?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just checked on my demo blog and I can still get to the Gallery tab on a post that contains a Gallery. You can click on the Gallery placeholder in the post itself and select the Edit icon that appears to get to it.

Many times such problems can be solved by logging out of WordPress.com, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies, shutting down your browser and reopening and logging back in.

    JustJennifer-
Thank you so much for your prompt response! However…I am unsuccessful. I logged out of WordPress, signed off of my browser, logged back in, and am having the same trouble.
What do you mean by “click on the Gallery placeholder in the post itself”? When I am in the edit post screen and have already uploaded my photos, there is no place to go anymore. I clicked on the ‘add media’ icon, in the ‘edit post’ screen and there is only bold print in the upper left corner that reads ‘Add media files from your computer’-no more gallery tab at all. When I go to the only other option within that screen-‘Media Library’, the photos are there, but there is no way to add them all together as a slideshow or gallery.
Forgive me if I’m being redundant, but I don’t know where you mean by ‘Gallery placeholder’.
Where do I go to clear my browser’s cache and cookies?
    Thank you!

The Gallery placeholder only appears in the Visual Editor after you’ve inserted a Gallery on an existing post. You are correct that it won’t appear on a new post. Sorry for my confusion.

After you upload the photos, make sure to click the “Save all Changes” button at the bottom of the uploader. That will take you to the Gallery tab in the Uploader.

Where does it tell me whether I am using the visual or html editor?
I did click on “Save all changes”.
Maybe it’s my dinosaur aol browser. People *do* make fun of me still using aol, but it’s always worked for me and I know how to navigate it best. My office computer uses Explorer, so I *am* used to that for my day job in a dental office, but at home, when I am blogging, I need aol for reasons I can’t easily explain.
Soooo-I closed out of aol and downloaded Firefox and now the gallery tab is there. But it’s not an ideal fix as I cannot have several windows open at the same time like I can in aol. I need to have emails open and see them while I’m posting.
Unfortunately, the link you sent to clear cache and cookies doesn’t include aol. :(
Sorry to be such a pain.
I’m going to close out of firefox and see what happens in the preferred (for me) aol browser. I’ve *never* had this prob before, so maybe WordPress updated to the point that it just doesn’t work on aol anymore?

Nope-same problem on aol browser. :(
    Any ideas?

    What is aol browser? :)

    Goodday msteriodette and justjennifer, i am facing the same problem. I believe i got the steps correct as i have been using the slideshow since. My slideshow page now stopped displaying, i did not have any problem prior to this. In its edit page it still shows a [slideshow], but its now blank when i click onto the preview and the actual page. I have done the following;
1- cleared the cache and cookies.
2- deleted the [slideshow] in the edit page, and loaded a new slide (like how i previously suceeded), but still to no avail. Here’s my link http://dtohphoto.com/archive/
Have i missed out anything? any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I’m using Chrome 19 and am looking at the slideshow on that page right now.

What browser and version are you using?

Thanks so much justjennifer for your input, very much appreciated i shall try to explore the browser, am not too savvy with that. Strangely the night before (3July12), my slideshow page was still working fine. Guess must be a switch-over after that day.

@daryltoh-If you are running IE9, see if it isn’t using “compatibility mode”. See here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/slideshows-display-as-static-black-boxes-on-windows-machines?replies=8
