How do I configure gallery widget to display a sample of the gallery items on the side bar not all of them..They are taking up too much space.
I’m very new to wordpress and know very little about it. -
Hi there,
Are you asking how to have a certain number of images in a gallery, but to only have the gallery display thumbnails for a smaller number of images? For example, have 20 images in the gallery, but only have thumbnails for 10 of them?
If so, that is not something which is possible on our widget. If you have added an image to a gallery, the thumbnail will be added as well.
Let me know if this answers your question!

Hi,
I had difficulty with passwords to so sorry for the delay. Yes that’s
what I meant. It would be great if you could put an unlimited number of photos in the gallery but only 3 or 4 were displayed..ie not taking up all the side space. and a click would open up the full thumbnail Gallery.
I haven’t taught myself anything about portfolios yet..maybe that’s the way,
Thanks -
Hi!
One potential workaround would be to use the Gallery Widget to display a subset of the photos. Then, underneath that widget, add a Text Widget that links to the full gallery, which you would insert in a post. Does that make sense? The full gallery would actually be within a post or page, but we would place a link to that gallery on your sidebar.
Here are two snapshots of what it could look like:

Actual page – https://cloudup.com/c-WPsAbo7DvWould that work for what you’re looking for? If so, let me know, and I’ll provide instructions on how to set it up.

That sounds great ,would do the trick.
I would be grateful for your help with instructions. -
Awesome! Follow these steps:
- Insert the Gallery Widget into your and set it up with a handful of images as explained here:
- Create a new page on your blog following the steps here:
Title it whatever you would like. In my example, I went with Gallery Page.
- Add a gallery to the page featuring all of the images you want to include:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#adding-a-gallery-or-slideshow
- Publish the page and record the URL (the address in your address bar when you visit the page).
- Navigate back to your Widgets screen and add a Text Widget below your Gallery Widget
- Within the Text Widget, add the following text:
See the entire gallery here!Just replace PAGE URL HERE with the URL from the step above and modify the “See the entire…” text to whatever you would like.
Then, save the widget.
That should do the trick! Give those steps a try and let me know if you run into any issues.
