Gallery won't show as group of thumbnails only one image

  Hi,

  I am new to WordPress and can’t figure what I am doing wrong here, hopefully someone can help me?!

  I am trying to insert a gallery of 9 images, 3 in a row.
  I go to inset media and change to create gallery, I select my images and choose create new gallery. I then caption my images, change my columns to three and ensure the type: thumbnail grid is selected (I have tried all of them now and none of them work)
  No matter what I do I seem to get the same problems.
  1. It does not appear as a gallery of thumbnails, just one larger image which you can scroll through to the next (like a click to scroll banner on a website)
  2. The image appears above my entire post – even the posts title.

  I am using the McKinley theme.

  Any help would be much appreciated.
