Gated content
-
Hello,
I am trying to put some gated content on my wordpress.com site (isabellescurlycakes.com)
Is there a way I can make someone enter their email address before they view the post or download a PDF? Then capture these addresses as well?
Any support/advice would be appreciated! Thanks so much!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can create a private post or page.
You can create a contact page and request an email address.
Then you can email and provide the URL only a selected few.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/Uploading documents
See here for accepted file types http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/ The following processes are outlined particularly for users who wish to upload a document and add its download link to a blog post or page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/Embedding documents
If you want to embed the document itself into a post, then you will have to use a third party application like Scribd or Google Docs.

Thanks timethief! I’m still confused about the privacy settings on a private post. Would I choose the password option? I don’t see something where they can enter their email to view the post??

Note on the “capture” you need to tell them that you are collecting the email for some spam list or what ever – since failure to fully disclose or to use email for something other than a person agreed to is illegal in many countries
The enter email is a big turn off and I skip any site that does that to me
Private Post will not work (only sen by logged in Admin & Editors for a blog) – Password protect and you send them a password would work – or just put the pdf file in the media library and send them a link

Thanks for chiming in as I live in one of those wonderful counties (Canada) where it is illegal.
creative way to build my database
If you were intending to send email to folks then you ought to state that up front ion your contact page. If you don’t you will run into legal issues because in Canada it’s illegal for anyone to use an email address for any purpose that it was not specifically submitted to be used for.
The blah, blah, blah you hear from those who blog for bucks about being creative by building an email list so you can spam others is a stinking pile of you know what because none of us wanted to be spammed into the age of information overload and opportunistic advertising.
If you have something of value to share and say it well and your are active when it comes to increasing traffic then you will attract a blog audience. That’s a given. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/drawing-visitors-to-my-site?replies=2#post-1425858

Thank you for your help! Not intending to spam or trick anyone, we are a small business specializing in cupcakes and looking to send recipes and discounts to local residents and businesses in the area.

Advice: Be cautious about accepting advice from those who blog for bucks.
