GATEWAY–post format

Can the post format be changed to show the entire post, or at least include the first picture in the post, rather than an excerpt?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can create a full page display but if you do then no HTML like image code will appear in it. That’s why I suggest you simply switch to another theme that does not automatically display front page excerpts.

All themes are unique. Some are designed to display full posts on the front page but newer themes are not so designed. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410

You have two choices (1) select another theme (2) use the excerpt function knowing that the HTML will NOT be active ie. this suggestion doesn’t work with objects inserted via a shortcode (videos, polls, audio players etc).

On any theme with an active excerpt box below the editor box you can use this workaround to have full posts on the front page. You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy all the code, paste it into the Excerpt box below the posts editor, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts

If you do not see an excerpt box then go to screen options on the top right hand corner of your Admin page and include all the modules:
Post – Likes and Shares, Format, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper

    re: changing themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears. Then you use the theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/

Every theme has a detailed theme description page with set up instructions like this one https://wordpress.com/themes/sapor/ and a live demo site https://sapordemo.wordpress.com/

Thanks! Not really what I was hoping for (I really did hope there was a magic wand, because I like so much about this theme) but you saved me a lot of time trying something that wouldn’t work. I appreciate your help and thorough explanation.

    You’re welcome and best wishes.

BTW know that creating full posts on the front page of your blog will immediately slow down page loading time. That’s why many new themes are designed to have front page excerpts only. If that’s what you are going to do then disable infinite scroll https://en.support.wordpress.com/infinite-scroll/#disabling-infinite-scroll and set a low number of posts for front page display here Dashboard → Settings → Reading.
