Gateway theme header/featured and search result images

    I just switched to the Gateway theme, and I have found two issues with images I’d like to change:

    1. No thumbnails are displayed on the search results pages (….com/?s=….).
    2. All blog posts use the primary image from my home page as the header image. I would like to use each blog post’s featured image.

    Bonus: I’d love to expand the height of each blog post’s header image and possibly overlay the blog’s title.

    How can I please make these modifications for my site? I don’t mind creating a child theme and editing php files (I’m just not that well-versed in php).
