Gateway Theme: Home Page Video Doesn't Appear
-
Hello:
I was trying to add a video to the home page of my blog (under the featured posts) using the customizer options shown here: https://cloudup.com/cYiLkyNuswD. But when I insert the URL of the video, it doesn’t show up. Any ideas what might be happening?
Here’s the video URL, in case it helps:

Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Gateway doesn’t seem to support direct urls to the video files.
Could you upload the video to a video service like YouTube or Vimeo and then use that url instead of the url to the direct video file.
-
Gateway does support direct URLs to video files.
The options to add a video URL only apply to the Homepage Template, but you haven’t applied that template to a static homepage, so that’s why it’s not appearing.
Try following the steps in the “Homepage Template” section of the setup guide:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/gateway/
Once you’ve set up a static homepage and applied the Homepage template following the guide, your video should be displayed.
Let me know how it goes

I applied the Home Page template to my front page and yet the url to the video file did not work.
Only permalinks are working, not the direct url to video file: https://cloudup.com/cN3MWxnlEgZ
I may be doing something else wrong.

I had the same problem as staff-happychia. I did set up the static homepage following the instructions in the setup guide and the video still didn’t appear, so I unpublished the page. I’m willing to try it again today, but I have a feeling something else may be going on.
Thank you!

It looks like the mp4 URL is not being rendered at all, the div where it should be output is blank:
<div class="jetpack-video-wrapper home-video"> </div>Chaitanya made a great find about the video’s VideoPress permalink. If you put the video’s VideoPress URL in this format in the Customizer the video displays correctly:
Could you let me know if that works for you too?
I’ll ask our developers about this too, and we’ll make the documentation clearer if needed.

Bravo! Thanks to both of you, I just got more done in fifteen minutes than I did banging around for two hours yesterday. I had a feeling it might have to do with the mp4 format, and your fixes worked great. You can see it working here if you’re interested: http://fairfaxtofairbanks.com/.

Oh, shoot, I spoke too soon. My posts page (the blog itself) is now gone. I just have two versions of the home page. I think I must have screwed up the menus. I’m going to try to sort it out, but if you can quickly see what I did wrong, I’d appreciate your guidance . . .

Looks like you just need to assign your posts to a blank placeholder page called Blog or whatever you like, which you can either do in the Customizer’s Static Front Page section, or in WP Admin’s Settings > Reading:

Just wanted to let you know that our developers made a change to Gateway so it should correctly recognize direct video URLs entered in the Customizer now.
