Gateway theme link underline

The link color of my theme does not contrast enough with the body text; it would be easier to discern links if they were underlined. I tried changing the link color to one that would contrast more with the body text, but it affected the link in my header as well, making it difficult to read, so I reverted to the default link color.

  • Hi there,

Can I see this on your homepage?  Or is it a specific place I need to look at?  Generally speaking you can format body text links in the block editor manually using the text formatting options, but color is set in the general swatches (in the Customizer) for this theme, and don’t have granular controls.

It’s not possible under your current plan, but to make really targeted changes (like the colors of some links but not others) is possible using a bit of custom CSS code. It’s included as an option in the design tools package included in the Premium plan however, and if you were to decide to upgrade, we are able to help with code snippets for simple changes like this.

Please note that because your site is already upgraded to the Personal Plan, you will see a discounted price (charging the difference in cost between the two plans) and not the full price as shown above.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

I was able to work around it with inline styles (color and text-decoration) but it seemed like I shouldn’t have to, if that makes sense; seems like something I would have expected to be part of the theme due to accessibility guidelines.

  • Thanks for the feedback @andy719. I want to say subtler body links were a trend back when this theme was made, and we don’t update the style of a theme because then we’d be changing an untold number of sites without the owners’ permissions.

Newer themes tend to have bigger text and more obvious links, usually with underlining. They can also be more easily adjusted in the Global Styles editor if your plan (Premium and up) supports it.

For older themes like Gateway, you’d need CSS to make changes across the site. If you’re interested in that, let us know and we can help you get the right code for it.
