Gateway Theme: make home page header image/area less high

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve just paid for Premium to be able to tweak CSS. I have a basic understanding of CSS but I’m overwhelmed at finding what to change and how.

    The first thing that I want to change is the height of the header area on the home page template. I want it wide and low, a bit like TwentyTen, maybe slightly higher. I am not going to put a lot of text on it, just a few buttons. And I’d like to hide the h1 (title) and h2 (text) elements completely there.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The blog is not masteringarchimate.com, it is rnaea.worpress.com and it’s not yet open (it needs to be OK before I open it up)

    And given that I have to move on, I’m still interested but in the meantime I’m trying out the Fortune Theme.

    re: rnaea.wordpress.com

    Have you purchased either a Premium or Business plan http://wordpress.com/plans for that site that provides the ability to edit CSS on that site?

    https://masteringarchimate.com/ is wearing the Twenty Ten theme https://wordpress.com/theme/twentyten

    All CSS editing is theme specfic editing.

    What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site wearing the Fortune theme https://wordpress.com/theme/fortune

    We are doing the same discussion in two threads. I’ve moved rnaea.wordpress.com from Gateway to Fortune in an attempt to make it work.

    I’m still interested in learning on how to do it with Gateway, but with Fortune it’s now good enough to proceed (though there are still some small issues).

    Hi there,

    The first thing that I want to change is the height of the header area on the home page template. I want it wide and low, a bit like TwentyTen, maybe slightly higher. I am not going to put a lot of text on it, just a few buttons.

    You could use the following Custom CSS to reduce the padding around the content in the Gateway theme, which would also reduce the header image:

    .hero-section .hero-content {
        padding: 0;
    }

    And I’d like to hide the h1 (title) and h2 (text) elements completely there.

    The following would hide the title and tagline from the home page of the Gateway theme, which would further reduce the height of the header image:

    .home .site-title, .home .site-description {
    display: none;
    }

    Hope that’s helpful! Let me know if you do switch back to Gateway and if you have any further questions.
