Gateway Theme site logo interferes with Featured Image og:image tag

I have discovered that using the Gateway Theme, whenever I set a site logo, although the Jetpack social previewer shows the Featured Image for a post, Facebook will only show the site logo as the preview image, even when I use Facebook debugging tools to re-scrape my page.

On top of this the Twitter preview looks correct, but Twitter doesn’t display a preview, and when I use Twitter’s Card Validator, it says it can’t find a card. I’m tearing my hair out, and my boss is breathing down my neck.

Twitter isn’t as important right now as Facebook, so how can I force WordPress to feed Facebook the correct “og:image” and still keep our site logo to be displayed overlayed on our header images?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

By the way, no matter what I do, Facebook’s debugger reports: “The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.”

So, it seems pretty clear that even if there is a Featured Image set on a post with the Gateway theme, WordPress still isn’t providing Facebook with an explicit “og:image” tag, so Facebook is forced to make one up, which is why, whenever a site logo is set, Facebook ends up grabbing it.

    Hi there,

I checked your most recent post (Vermont BIPOC Business Roundtable Registration) in the Facebook debug tool, but I did not see the site logo as you mentioned. Instead I see the Featured image that you set for the post.

Is it possible this is an issue that affects specific post? Per our sharing documentation here, setting a Featured Image is the best way to specify an image for use on Facebook. https://wordpress.com/support/publicize/#images-on-facebook

Can you re-add a site logo so that we can check and see how that affects what is shown in Facebook?
