Gateway Theme — Static Front Page

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi all. I’m building my first WP site. It’s a site for a friend’s cake business. I currently have a Static Front Page and I have a couple of questions about how to get it to do what I’d like. Right now the last three posts are displayed on the page, which is fine. However they are appearing below this annoying social media widget. You can see it here: https://prettysweetcakes.wordpress.com/.

My second question is about making my Home page look exactly the same as my SFP. Is there a way to do that with this particular theme? When I set the URL for my home page to same as the URL for my SFP, it automatically appended a ‘–2’ to it, meaning the link doesn’t work. I really would like the functionality of the SFP to work on the Home page. Hoping this is possible.

    Thanks all!

    Hi there,

Welcome to WordPress.com! The photos on your site are definitely making my mouth water. :)

Right now the last three posts are displayed on the page, which is fine. However they are appearing below this annoying social media widget.

To remove the sharing buttons from your home page, first navigate to the page’s editor:

    https://wordpress.com/page/prettysweetcakes.wordpress.com/40

You’ll find a Sharing tab on the left, where you can uncheck the options to Show Sharing Buttons or to Show Like Buttons.

Update your post when you’re done and the buttons will be gone. from the home page

My second question is about making my Home page look exactly the same as my SFP. Is there a way to do that with this particular theme?

Can you clarify what you’re referring to by “my SFP?” I’m not entirely clear and was not able to find any posts/pages with that name when searching your site.

When I set the URL for my home page to same as the URL for my SFP, it automatically appended a ‘–2’ to it.

A -2 will automatically be added to a URL if the same URL is being used for another post, page, tag, category, or any other content on your site.

If you can clarify your end goal, though, I can see how I can help.

Thanks for the help! SFP = Static Front Page, sorry for the confusion. I essentially want the functionality of my Static Front Page to serve as my homepage. I’d like for the ‘Home’ link in the navbar to just direct me to my Static Front Page, but I’m not sure that’s possible. I’ve been reading about child themes, I could write some custom CSS to just make the Home page look like the Static Front Page. Not sure if that’s something available to me on the Free plan.

Again, thanks for the help. Glad you like the photos!

Ah, I see! Thank you so much for clarifying.

You can definitely add a “Home” link to your menu that leads to your SFP. :)

The first step is for you to navigate to your custom menu via My Site > Menus:

    https://wordpress.com/menus/prettysweetcakes.wordpress.com

From there, select the pencil icon next to “Home” in order to edit that item. In the resulting window, check the box next to “Home: Welcome to Pretty Sweet Cakes” and save your changes.

After you’ve made those changes, the link will lead to your SFP. The second “Home” page is unneeded and can be deleted.

Let me know if those steps are clear or if I can be of further help.

That worked! That you so much for the help.

I’m glad to hear that. :) We’re right here if anything else comes up too.
