Gazette – Featured Images on posts

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I love the Gazette theme, but I am having trouble with the featured images at the top of posts (Although it looks nice, it takes up too much space at the top). Specifically, I would like to remove them, but clicking the option “Display header image on blog index only” does not seem to remove the image. What can I do to remove the header image?

    Thank you,
    Clay

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I should note the blog has an under construction screen while I do the changes in administration so unfortunately I can’t show the blog.

    Where is http://www.claycomix.com hosted?

If hosted on WPcom, you can find out more about using the theme here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/gazette/ specifically the section on Featured Content and Featured Images

If it is using the standalone WP software, you’ll want to head over to the support forums here https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username there, you’ll need to create one.

If that didn’t answer your question please let us know.

Although the site is located by itself, the Gazette theme was downloaded from WordPress.com. Currently Gazette is not yet available on .org. My question involves the functionality of theme downloaded from .com.

Although the site is located by itself

I take that to mean that you will use this on a site using the standalone WP software.

the Gazette theme was downloaded from WordPress.com

Even though WPcom has provided a link on the Theme Showcase page to “Download Gazette for your self-hosted WordPress site”, you should seek help over at the ORG support forums.

And because it’s an ORG site, you’ll have more options to change things around (like being able to edit the PHP files, for example).

Staff – due to the possible confusion caused by the mentioned download link, it would be beneficial to add another link on the Showcase page to the relevant support forum on the ORG site. Thanks for listening.

I have tried the same thing on a site I have hosted on WordPress.com and the checkbox is still ineffective, it doesn’t turn off featured images on posts. E.g. https://depressioncomix.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/235/

@depressioncomix-FWIW I tested Gazette on my WPcom test site and what you asked about only deals with the Header image. It doesn’t change the display of any Featured image in Single post view. If you want to remove the Featured image, you’d have to go in post by post and remove it.

Again, the ORG version can be tweaked in ways that the COM version cannot.

Ahh, I just noticed that myself when I looked again, I got the header and featured image terminology confused, probably because in this case the featured image appears above the header.

There are nice things about the Gazette magazine theme, but…

Most image post formats are styled so the featured image is hidden on the image post page. Will the theme designer be correcting this?

This is a serious issue with Gazette. It’s a game-breaker for me, anyway.

@alajoann – As this thread was originally marked by the OP as resolved, in order to get your question about the Featured Image the attention it deserves, won’t you please open a new thread here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes#postform
