I am struggling to make the gazette theme work on static pages on wordpress.com. My goal is to customize the theme homepage to eliminate summary or make a static page with featured content.

Featured content is configured properly and only visible at the latest posts option for homepage, which presents the post summary (wich for real-life blogging, does not work perfectly well with image and text-only posts.

When trying to format the static pages, the editor continues showing initial theme, (Hever). Post format and featured content area is not available. What am I missing?

    Hi,

What’s the address URL of the site?

My goal is to customize the theme homepage to eliminate summary or make a static page with featured content.

How to set up the Featured Content area is described in the “Featured Content and Featured Images” section of the Gazette theme overview. That section begins “The homepage features your choice of up to six posts or pages that are prominently displayed in a grid,” which is not necessarily true, because the featured content section is designed to display on the posts (or blog) page, whether it’s the homepage or not. It is not designed to display on a static page, unless that static page is set as the posts page.

Featured content is configured properly and only visible at the latest posts option for homepage, which presents the post summary (wich for real-life blogging, does not work perfectly well with image and text-only posts.

I don’t understand the issue described here. Could you explain the problem more clearly? As mentioned in the Gazette theme overview, the featured content area displays up to six featured content posts. If they aren’t displaying in a grid at the top of the posts page, then the instructions haven’t been followed correctly. Also, whether featured content posts display in the posts stream depends upon whether the box “Also display tagged posts outside the Featured Content area” at Customize > Featured Content is checked.

When trying to format the static pages, the editor continues showing initial theme, (Hever).

When you switch from one theme to another, including a switch from the default theme, some content will typically remain unchanged. This is to be expected. You may delete the content of any static page and start building its content from scratch.

Post format and featured content area is not available.

I’m not sure I understand correctly, but it’s true that post format options aren’t present in the editors of static pages. That’s true regardless of the theme applied. Similarly, the featured content area is only available on either the homepage when it’s set to display the latest posts, or on a static page that is set as the posts page.

Re: the following from my first comment.

Similarly, the featured content area is only available on either the homepage when it’s set to display the latest posts, or on a static page that is set as the posts page.

This statement pertains specifically to the Gazette theme, and is not necessarily true wrt other themes.
