Gazette theme problem
-
Hello,
Even if I tag my posts with “featured”, they won’t appear in the featured section of the theme (above the menu). I’ve tried installing and reinstalling, both from downloading it as .zip for my self-hosted and from the SVN.
Help please :-(

Sorry to hear you’re having theme difficulties with your site.
This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. Your question is specifically for a self-hosted installation of WordPress. You’ll need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums.
https://wordpress.org/support/
You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:
I recommend asking the Gazette’s theme developers and support community so they can help you with this.

pschizophrenia – are you running Jetpack? That’s what drives the Featured Content functionality.
daschultemn – Gazette isn’t yet available on WordPress.org so I’m happy to answer questions here in the meantime, since folks are downloading the theme here on WordPress.com.

@kathrynwp- but having that download link for ORG users on the Gazette theme showcase page is causing confusion.
Should we volunteers then tag all the ORG users posting in the COM forums about Gazette with modlook?
(And aren’t then we adding to the ORG/COM confusion? My 2¢ worth)

Hi Jennifer, I realize it’s confusing. I do look at every thread in the Themes forum, so I’ll spot them if they’re here. If you see one that’s in another sub-forum, you can modlook and ask for it to be moved here.

Just to clarify, there’s no need for you to modlook every thread about a self-hosted site. Most of the self-hosted themes people post about here aren’t Automattic/WordPress.com themes, and so sending them to WordPress.org (especially if you point them to the theme’s specific sub-forum) is the right thing to do.
There are only a few circumstances under which one of our themes is available for download here but not on .org, like Gazette, which is pending review at WordPress.org, so it doesn’t have its own forum yet. I don’t expect volunteers to research the status of every self-hosted theme that folks ask about here, so if I spot a question about a theme that’s “between forums” like Gazette, I’m happy to answer that right here.

No worries. I’ll just tag such posts with Gazette and let you folks do the heavy lifting. :)

Yes, I asked the solution on Twitter to the developer, and he found the solution.
Having Jetpack installed and configured the “Featured” in the “Customize” panel, solved it. Thanks!

Hello,
I have a wordpress.com website and I’m having the same problem with Gazette. I have added the ‘featured’ tag to two posts and specified ‘featured’ as the tag name in the featured content bit of the customizer. But there is no featured area. Any idea where my featured area has gone and how to make it appear?

Hi Natalie, the Featured Content area only appears if you’ve set your front page to display your latest posts. Since you’ve opted for a static front page, that’s why there’s no Featured Content area.
If you need further help, would you please start a new thread? I’m going to lock this one now as the original issue was resolved. Thanks!
