Gazette Theme – Single Column Page

    I must be missing something… How do I create a page that only has one column for content?

    It seems when I create a page in Gazette, centered content is left-of-center….

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    The Gazette theme doesn’t have optional page templates. If you leave the sidebar widget area empty, the page content will still hug the left side, leaving a gap where the widgets would be. Changing this behavior, if possible, would require CSS customization.

    Some themes offer optional layouts which might including various numbers of columns on pages or posts. Gazette’s layout options are limited to the four theme options described in the Gazette theme guide, none of which pertain to the number of columns on a page.

    I would be happy to mess with the CSS… Suggestions?

    Would love to help you, but I don’t have any experience with CSS. You may wait for a staff person to respond here — they always respond to the topics in the Themes forum — and ask about it then, submit a separate request to the CSS Customization forum, or do both.

  • Hey rjbinney

    Looks like you’ve switched over to a different theme with a full width template option for pages, but in case you (or someone else who pulls up this thread later) wanted to make Gazette single column, here’s some CSS that should do the trick :)

    #main {
    	width: 100%;
    	border-right: none;
    }

    #secondary {
    	display: none;
    }

    That will remove the sidebar everywhere, across the entire site.

    staff-loquaciousloon,

    Hi. In this request, rjbinney is evidently referring to the site https://b-spoke.net (the Account Settings “Web Address”), which still has the Gazette theme activated.

    Thanks, yes I switched from Gazette to Shoreditch, but this is super-helpful.

    One thing I noticed – on Shoreditch theme, anyway – is that the “Categories” pages are ALSO off center.

    That’s because the sidebar widget area displays on category pages and archives pages with Shoreditch. Leaving the sidebar widget area empty on the Shoreditch theme doesn’t affect the alignment of the content of a category page, as it doesn’t affect the alignment on other archives pages and single posts.

    You’ll need CSS customization again. I think the code provide by chad1008 above may be theme specific, so it might not work on Shoreditch. Also I think his daily shift might be completed, so he might not be back until tomorrow.

    It is theme specific, and won’t work for Shoreditch, but something similar will!

    For Shoreditch not Gazette, this CSS will hide the sidebar:

    #primary {
    	width: 100%;
    	border-right: none;
    }

    #secondary {
    	display: none;
    }

    Oh, so very very confusing.

    I have never felt so old as when trying to learn this stuff….

    Thanks, working on something else today but will circle back to this. Appreciate the help!
