GDPR

I had Cookiebot check my site to make sure it was compliant and it wasn’t I tried to fix up but I am confused because it is asking me to copy the consent dialog script code from the manager to the header of your website template. Where is that on here? I want to get the business plan but you only offer it annually not monthly. I could afford that if it was monthly. I did add the cookies widget to the website and also added the blog stating what I use the blog for as I am an author. I only share links to buy my books I don’t sell them directly from here. I really need help, so I can make sure I am compliant. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, all free sites on WordPress.com now have the Cookies & Consent widget enabled automatically on their sites https://en.support.wordpress.com/cookie-widget/ but adding the widget in itself does not necessarily make your site compliant with GDPR.
Please read the sticky post at the top of this forum for more information and resources about WordPress.com and the GDPR https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/about-the-gdpr/
Here are links to a couple of Staff replies which might help clarify:

Thanks Jennifer.
Unfortunately it does not provide how I can make it compliant. WordPress does have a plugin that collects prior consent which I have seen but to have it. You must have a business plan. And I do have the cookies widget on my website. As for paying so I can get plugin, I don’t have the money. I write because I love to do it. This plugin should be made available to all wordpress users. However, I don’t feel safe enough to have my website on here when I don’t have the resources to make sure I am compliant.

Hello again, If you need to understand better what is covered in the GDPR, https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/ is a good place to start.
Part of the GDPR is transparency. You need to look at your own practices to know whether they are compliant with the GDPR or not. No one other than you or a lawyer can really answer or confirm that.
For example, when you get a notification of a new follower or new comment from WordPress.com, do you do anything with that information? Do you have additional stats programs like Google Search Console, ClustrMaps, Whosamungus, or Clicky (to name only a few) running on your site? These are the types of questions you should ask yourself.
So as you can see, there’s really no one-size-fits-all answer that we can give because each site owner sets up their site for their needs.
WordPress.com can only provide us with tools and this article covers the ways WordPress.com has already updated their tools to be compliant with GDPR: https://automattic.com/automattic-and-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/
Hope that helps somewhat.

“…all free sites on WordPress.com now have the Cookies & Consent widget enabled automatically on their sites…”
This widget has a bug in the Hexa theme. When I click nothing happens and it is out of the standard of the other themes (see: https://quidlibetblog.wordpress.com/).

I just aded the widget to one area and the visual is ok now, but when I click the message remains.

Hello everyone.
I have the same problem. It,s ok, GDPR is clear and it, fine to me to have a mandatory banner which links to the cookies policy. But I think it should work good and should CLOSE whene someone clicks on “close and accept”.[mature site link redacted by mod]
Actually, if clicking on it, the page reloads and the banner appears again. And again!
Is it possible to fix it?
Is there anyone who did fix it?Thanks in advance,
Regards. -
Hello folks, Please do not post into an unrelated and resolved thread. :)
The cookie banner widget issue is known to Staff and they are working on a fix. You can follow the discussion in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cookies-banner-issue-on-the-button-2-theme
Since the original poster has marked this thread as resolved, I’ll go ahead and close this thread.
