GDPR and cookie policy acceptance

    Dear WordPress support,

Tomorrow the GDPR is taking effect and I maybe should have waited until tomorrow to ask you this question:

My cookie acceptance policy feature that I am providing on my website returns after the button has been clicked after the page has been reloaded. To inspect about the problem there was a notice on my widgets tab that explained that the custom link covers only WordPress cookies and that different cookies from external or third party connections which I do not have as far as I am aware must be catered for separately. Is this because the settings for the GDPR are still being tested and developed or becuse it is not yet in effect as a preliminary situation or is there something wrong with my site or with the way that the theme that I am using functions, which is ‘Baskerville 2’? The ‘Baskerville 2’ theme is the one I find best suited to my website.

Talking about the theme, I have 4 portfolios, and I have unpublished or deleted or both, those portfolios that I have been copying from articles to present my articles as portfolios from when I was using another theme which I have now replaced, because portfolios do not indicate dates and were not suitable for the articles as well. I do not need those unpublished and deleted portfolios except the 4 portfolios that I want to present, but when the first portfolio is being read there is a link at the end indicating which one was the previous one and the next one which includes the one from the deleted and unpublished work that is not needed and where the page connot be found and does not exist. If there is anything more that I can do myself so that readers are not presented with an inactive link that does not lead to another page.

    Thank you, Costas Kitis.

  • Hi there,

The cookie banner on our site dismisses properly for me if I click it, and doesn’t reappear on a reload.

Does your browser allow third party cookies? When you click that banner to accept the policy it sets a cookie in your browser. That’s what prevents the banner from appearing again. However, once you clear browser cookies the banner will appear again, even if you’d previously accepted it. And if your browser is set to block cookies, or if you have a privacy add-on in your browser that blocks cookies from being set, then it’s expected that the banner will reappear every time you reload the page. That’s not something we can control.

but when the first portfolio is being read there is a link at the end indicating which one was the previous one and the next one which includes the one from the deleted and unpublished work that is not needed and where the page connot be found and does not exist.

Can you please give a link to the portfolio project where you see this? And what is the title of the portfolio that it’s linking to for you?

    Hello,

About your issue, I think is exactly the same than the one describe here : https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cookies-banner-issue-on-the-button-2-theme/#post-3114766

If you don’t use a personalized text, I invite you to disable the widget and then you will get the default banner displayed on all WP.com websites ;)

  • Let’s actually go ahead and consolidate our efforts here:

I’ll close this thread too to reduce confusion. Cheers :)
