GDPR and EU Cookie law compliance on my free WP blogs

    Hi! I live in the EU and have multiple free websites on wordpress that I don’t update very often, but have a lot of fun tinkering with now and then for the sake of creative exploration.

    While starting the process of cleaning up (which to keep and which to delete) I noticed that some now have a cookie consent bar popping up at the bottom, while others don’t.

    Also, a GDPR compliance check of my most recent free WP blog on cookiebot shows that it is *NOT* GDPR compliant (though I have no interest in collecting user data.)

    When I tried to fix it by uploading EU Cookie law and GDPR compliance plug-ins, I got a WP message saying that I need to update to a plan that is not free to do this.

    Questions:

    1 – Can I have my WP free websites EU Cookie law and GDPR compliant at no extra charge?

    2 – If yes: can I get it quickly done with installing one or more plug-ins?

    3 – Which plug-in or plug ins do you recommend I install to make my blogs BOTH EU Cookie law and GDPR compliant?

    4 – How do I install those plug ins on my free WP blogs? I.e., without having to upgrade to a paid plan.

    Thanks in advance for all your help!

    Until my blogs are compliant, I’m off to make them all private…I guess that’s my only option to be legit now, besides deleting the blogs.

    Are you referring to an automated online check? Please do not rely on services like that to judge your site’s compliance. GDPR is an incredibly complex piece of legislation, and only a lawyer who has made a thorough study of that law can advise you regarding your site’s compliance. No automated online tool can do this, no matter what their creators claim.

    Likewise, no plugin can magically make any website compliant. At most a plugin can add certain tools and features to your site that will enable you to comply with certain aspects of the law.
