    Hi justjennifer,

    I have Wordpres.com blog in Serbia, does the GDPR law also applies to Serbia, or only in the countries of the European Union?
    I saw in my widget directory EU Cokie Law baner, and I have activated it.

    Hi dzonson,

    as you can see here, you will find that Serbia dosn’t belong to the EU.
    https://europa.eu/european-union/about-eu/countries_en

    And here the Text of the GDPR:

    Hi katalyma,

    Thanks for the answer.

    Yes I know that Serbia is not a member of EU, but I thought that in some way GDPR must be applied in Serbia also, although it does not belong to the EU. I wanted to be sure what is true about this, because there are rumors in Serbia that GDPR must be applied in Serbia as well.

    Dear WordPress-Support, we have May, 13th and in 12 days the new european law has to be implemented. Yout last information concerning the GDPR hast been a long time ago. Do you really want all of the free bloggers to leave?
    As free users we don´t have the possibility to create a legal GDPR decree without you information. Which data frum our readers is saved and for how long?
    What about the ADR (data processing)?
    There are a lot of questions to which we, as free users, do not have an answer.

    Dear WordPress Support and Forum Members
    I appreciate that WordPress will be providing further updates but in the meantime I have a another question.

    We have about 1,100 people who have signed up to our blog to receive an email alert each time a post is published (twice a week). Should I download these email addresses and write to them all giving them the option to tell me that they wish to stop receiving email alerts? If they do not wish to receive further email alerts would I then have delete their email addresses manually from the WordPress site, or is there any other way to do this?

    I would be really grateful for comments on this. Thank you.

    Hi @dzonson the GDPR affects all websites that either operate in the EU or has visitors from the EU. That’s just about everyone, I think.

    For anyone who is thinking about deleting their site ahead of 25 May, please wait because it won’t be possible for you to recover your WordPressdotcom site address if you do. You can remove it after the 25th, should you decide that is the best decision for you, and by then you’ll have more information on which to base your decision. Patience, it ain’t easy.

    If you haven’t yet read the support guide at https://en.support.wordpress.com/automattic-gdpr/ I do suggest you do so as well as subscribe to the WordPress.com Blog at https://en.blog.wordpress.com/ as updates and announcements about this will be made there.

    Hi justjennifer,

    Thanks for the answer. I will not delate my blog, because I am from Serbia, and my WordPressdotcom blog operate in Serbia, Serbia is not in the EU, and I have no visitors from the UE. However, I expect that WordPressdotcom staff until May 25th, should provide some tools that we can use it, according to GDPR regulations…

  • Thanks for posting that :) We’re working to ensure site owners will be able to be GDPR compliant, so we will continue sharing new features as we have them.

  • Hi folks,

    In addition to the en.blog post linked to above, for complete information about our use of data, please refer to our privacy policy, recently updated to add more detail:

    Privacy Policy

    Specifically it now also contains information on what data we collect from visitors to your site, and how we use that data.

    Both our privacy.blog and the GDPR support page will have updates by the end of the month and going forward.

    @wavoigt
    and @kariskleinebrettspielwelt

    And, of cause, I need to have a contract with wordpress.com for handling and storing user data from my site (sorry, I don’t know the correct name for this)

    What about the ADR (data processing)?

    We provide data processing agreements, but it is a feature of paid sites. If you have a paid upgrade on your site and require such an agreement, please create a new support ticket at https://wordpress.com/help/contact to request that.

    As free users we don´t have the possibility to create a legal GDPR decree without you information. Which data frum our readers is saved and for how long?

    If you want to write a Privacy Policy that discloses to your site’s visitors the information that’s collected when they follow or comment on your site, you can find a detailed description of what gets collected about them at https://jetpack.com/support/comments/#privacy

    If you have any follow-up questions, let us know.

    kokkieh: “We provide data processing agreements, but it is a feature of paid sites.”

    What’s that supposed to mean? At least that you close the free pages for Europe? WP leaves all free users in an illegal state, with this conclusion. Other providers, such as AllInkl or 1&1, give this contract free of charge to all users. Why can’t WP and above all is WP not willing to do this?

  • @katalyma

    Not all sites need this additional agreement. If you are based in the EU, please consult a lawyer whether or not you need this agreement for your specific site.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @kokkieh

    Due to all the data WP collects from users – as well as from third party sites – it seems to me that all users of WP need such a contract. That is why I believe that this assumption is wrong.

  • Unknown's avatar

    One more question: Who pays the lawyer?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @kokkieh,

    I am From Serbia and have a blog from WordPressdotcom, and Serbia not belong to EU.

    Does I need to implement GDPR in my blog?
    If I need to implement GDPR, what should I do?

  • @dzonson

    We cannot give specific legal advice about your particular site, as we are not your attorneys.

    I have provided links in this thread to the various places where you can find information on all the data we collect about visitors to your site, which you can use should you want to create your own privacy policy for your site. That is the extent of the advice we can give.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @kokkieh,
    Thanks for the answer…

  • If your site needs an additional agreement, you would need to pay for your lawyer. I hope this helps.
