  Newbie? Is there a plugin or some other (free) feature that will display a genealogy pedigree chart?

  No there is not. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins into them Those found on the internet are only for wordpress.ORG installs which run on different software.

  You may be able to use Google docs.

  Thanks timethief. You have saved me from looking for something that is not there. I am thinking my best bet is probably to link to my genealogy website from WordPress.com

  That sounds sensible. You can include a custom link to your genealogy site in a custom menu.
