General blog layout question (pages & posts)
-
I’m struggling with layout & conceptual stuff. My blog sits at motorambler.com.
Basically, I’d like my blog to:
1. Allow me to publish my thoughts
2. Do gear reviews
3. Share photosRight now I have modified only one ‘page’, the default ‘About’ page. Everything I contributed so far goes to the front page, I guess this is the ‘main’ page? Anyway, I’m considering two scenarios:
1. Creating separate pages, one each for reviews, photos, & musings
2. Moving my photos from Google to my blog’s media filesIs #1 is a good idea? If so, how would I present the images in my ‘photos’ page? For example, the images I would be uploading into my WordPress account are currently here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/pappasarthur
Would I create a Post for each gallery of pics, or a page or what?
Is #2 a good idea or should I just link to my Google pics instead? I kinda like the idea of having everything ‘central’ but not if it’s silly or will create unnecessary problems.
I apologize if I’m a little hazy with my questions, but I’m really confused myself!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please review this Support document, which will explain the difference between pages and posts. They are QUITE different, and it’s important to get it right before putting too much content on the blog. Because your suggestion #1 is a horrible, horrible idea that will screw you up more than you can imagine.

“Reviews”, “photos”, & “musings” should be post categories, not pages. You can assign each post to the relevant category, and add the Categories widget for your sidebar.
If what you’re looking for is to have those three categories displayed as tabs in the header (next to your “About”) you can do it the way I explain here:

2. Moving my photos from Google to my blog’s media files
Yes, good idea. Your pictures will load faster. Be sure to upload images optimized for the web. Also, make them the size you want to show.
