General help – on search a database for photos

    Hi, I’m very new to all this, I’m designing a website, for purely hosting images of my grandson growing up, through the years born in 2021. I have my site partially built, but I want to add loads of photos to a database and be able to search for them by year and month, as well as the ones you can view on the site itself. I’m ok with adding images to the site and I’ve even created an upload form for multiple photos to be added by my kids. I have my Word press via Ionos, with 250 Gb web space and a MariaDB data base included. can anyone point me in the direction of how best to store the images and build a simple search bar with “year and month” as I’ve named all the images as such? I’m beginning to think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew, but always up for a challenge, and help or direction would be greatly appreciated even if it’s a relevant course. A list of things I need to do or learn would be great. thanks for listening Ian

    Hey there @mawdz09, these are actually the forums for sites hosted here at WordPress.com and our setup is a bit different.

    as well as the ones you can view on the site itself.

    Just to clarify, do you want to be able to search the entire media library from the front-end of the site? Or, will you just be using the existing media search filters from the library? If you’ll just be using the media library as an admin, have you checked out what filters are there already?

    If you want all of the images to be publicly findable on the site, you might consider making posts for each one (or for each set) and tagging them for organization.
