General Info Desired About Domain Names and the Premium Plan Subscription

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve tried chat a couple of times… and I am having difficulty understanding what they (in chat support) have been trying to tell me.

I have a problem with my keyboard where the space bar malfunctions – sometimes a lot and this probably doesn’t help them trying to understand me. I can takethe timetofixsuch via a forum likethis. (just an example of what I’m talking about)

Slate Run Sportsmen has a WordPress.com account. A ‘Premium’ account. This is $96 per year. Does THAT ‘subscription’ pay for slaterunsportsmen.wordpress.com domain name? Or does it pay for the other Domain names I have registered with our account? (we have slaterunsportsmen.com and slaterunsportsmen.org registered too)

I thought the Premium Plan paid for the domain name each year. In my attempts at ‘chat’ support – one chatterer said the domain names needed renewed on FEB 2019. A different chatterer said the slaterunsportsmen.com didn’t need renewed untill 2020.

In ALL FAIRNESS – I have contributed to this confusion.

I got a different credit card account number and think I changed that information in the Manage Purchases last evening (about 12hours ago). AND… then I think I renewed a domain name. I ‘fat-fingered’ that … and then saw I did that this morning.

I believe one of the chatterers refunded that per my request. At least that was one of my intentions to have happen this morning.

So – as a matter of practice – am I going to have to renew both domain names(slaterunsportsmen.com and slaterunsportsmen.org) each year? AND…..additionally get charged for the Premium Plan… each year? I THOUGHT…. the Premium Plan paid for the domain name (at least one of them – if it did… which one did it pay for?) I THOUGHT… that would be part of the Premium Plan that I paid EACH year. But – is it true… THAT is only for the first year of the Premium Plan? :(

This could have been cleared up sooooooo much faster if i could have just TALKED …. with someone n the phone! At least this forum style lets me try to correct the spacebar issue.

    Thanks for any help

  • Hi there,

Does THAT ‘subscription’ pay for slaterunsportsmen.wordpress.com domain name?

No. slaterunsportsmen.wordpress.com is a free WordPress.com address that was created when you created your site. That address is free for life, and cannot be used anywhere else than on WordPress.com. That is the actual address where your content lives, and should you ever cancel your custom domain, your content will still be accessible at that address.

Or does it pay for the other Domain names I have registered with our account?

Every plan includes one free domain registration, so that plan paid for the registration of your domain, slaterunsportsmen.org. slaterunsportsmen.com was a separate purchase.

Come next year, both domains will be separate payments from the plan to renew, as a plan only includes one free domain for the first year. Subsequent renewals of the domain registered for free are paid at the standard retail cost of the domain, $18 without privacy, $26 with for each of those domains.

I thought the Premium Plan paid for the domain name each year.

That used to be the case, but that policy has recently changed. You should already have received an email informing you of this change, and offering you a last early renewal before December 19 to still have the domain renew with the plan one more time.

one chatterer said the domain names needed renewed on FEB 2019. A different chatterer said the slaterunsportsmen.com didn’t need renewed untill 2020.

Your domain, slaterunsportsmen.org, last renewed in April when you bought your Premium Plan, and it will expire in March 2020.

Your domain, slaterunsportsmen.com, was renewed two days ago and will expire in March 2020 as well. We have refunded you the cost of that renewal, as you said in live chat you did that by mistake, but the actual domain renewal still went through at the registry – there is no way to undo a domain renewal.

So – as a matter of practice – am I going to have to renew both domain names(slaterunsportsmen.com and slaterunsportsmen.org) each year? AND…..additionally get charged for the Premium Plan… each year?

    Correct.

    kokkieh,

THANK YOU…..so much for addressing each phrase I had in my inquiry!

I can not tell you how much your presentation of and your response to my questions mean!

In chat, (my opinion) this was really, really difficult, to get a cohesive answer. I didn’t help myself out I suppose with trying to confirm that my charge information had gone through too. I saw somewhere I think in my Manage Purchases like 4 entries but only one with an actual charge with it – and THAT alarmed me. I’m sure I DID that… but I was just trying to change information as my card number/account number changed.

THen I saw that there were prices for domain name use AND the Premium Plan use and was a bit confused. I’m sure I must have gotten notification about that domain name isn’t part of the Premium Plan charges anymore – but I probably ‘blew it off’ as just another email from WOrdPress. I need to pay more attention tho them – lesson learned.

So I inadvertently charged for the renewal of slaterunsportsmen.com- which extended my expiration date to MAR2020….. and now have been reimbursed for that charge…. – BUT…. the expiration of that domain name can NOT be changed back to MAR2019 ???? Is THIS correct?

Look , I wasn’t trying to weasel or screw you guys out of a year’s domain name rental!

I REALLY DO wish these sorts of transactions could take place over the phone call as this would have been cleared up in minutes instead of the hours I/we’ve spent on this.

NOW I’m thinking I’ve just taken advantage of you guys …. and I don’t like that!

Forum support, for the most part, has been so great in the past and in response to this posting. I’m glad YOU guys are here to help novices like me!

Thanks again for your response and addressing of this issue.

If there is some way I can mark this as a closed issue – let me know – otherwise you can mark this closed.(thanks)

  • BUT…. the expiration of that domain name can NOT be changed back to MAR2019 ???? Is THIS correct?

That is correct, yes. But you don’t need to give it any further thought. This was an error on our part, so we’ll carry the cost of it :)

You’ll only need to pay for either of your domains again in 2020, so just make sure you keep your payment information up to date, and they should auto-renew at that time without any issues.

Thanks again for your response and addressing of this issue.

Glad I could help. I’ll mark the thread as resolved :)
