General Site Package Information – Personal Consumer Databases and Membership Billing

    Hello!

I’m in the very nascent stages of establishing a person-to-person and online business as a nutritionist and herbal therapist. Right now I’m contacting you because I’ve got some ideas regarding the capabilities I want for potential and existing clients. Obviously I understand that WordPress supplies a variety of basic features including video and e-commerce, but I want to be able to supply personalized recommendations for my clients based on their diet and activities. I plan on doing this by enabling a daily survey database accessible by member login which supplies the data for a weekly analysis and tracker of said information, as well as a monthly record for menstruating users. Does WordPress allow for such personalized platforms for consumers? How much of that would be accessible via a mobile platform, if at all?

Additionally, I hope to have separate pages for members and non-members, with some products available to non-members but services only accessible to paying members. Is there a way to set up unique access-code allocation for those who have signed a monthly contract? Is it possible to set up monthly billing and how does WordPress enable monetary collection?

I appreciate your taking the time to address my questions!

    Hi Magalee,

What can be built on WordPress is pretty much limitless. This means that the type of membership site you are thinking of it indeed possible through the use of WordPress.

With that being said, it will take a lot of customization to build the exact type of platform you are dreaming of. To get you pointed in the right direction I would suggest taking a look at the WordPress.com Business Plan which allows for plugins and custom themes to be installed.

For plugin recommendations to get you started I’d look at WooCommerce with the WooMembers Bundle of extension as it would allow for members only products and montly billing through a number of payment gateways and processors.

There are also lots of tools out there for helping with sending surveys etc when using WordPress.com Business or a self-hosted WordPress site.

How the site itself is built will determine how mobile-friendly it is making that portion of your question difficult to answer. However, building a mobile site like you discuss is possible

Some of the more unique features to your site such as the menstruation tracking may require hiring a developer to build tools specific to your need to integrate with your WordPress site.

As a final note, I’ll leave you with our documentation which goes over the differences between using WordPress.com and a self-hosted WordPress site:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
