General trouble with wordpress site

  • Unknown's avatar

Yesterday I joined the WordPress and started building my website. I didn’t log out of my account, just left it for the night. Today there is a red exclamation mark on the top of the dashboard menu (next to the website link) and the menu links do not work, for example I cannot access settings or WP admin. When I click on in either nothing happens or the error message pops up
    (Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request).

This also happens when I try to access my website.

Could someone advise how to fix it, please?

  • Hi there,

Your site isn’t hosted here on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software, hosted at Bluehost.com. It’s connected to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack plugin.

You connected your Bluehost site using the temporary domain Bluehost gave you, http://box5406.temp.domains/, but that domain is now giving a 404 error. That’s why the Jetpack connection is no longer working – the site it’s trying to reach no longer exists.

I’m guessing your site has been switched on Bluehost’s end from the temporary domain to the permanent one, and there’s no redirect in place so the temporary domain will still work.

To fix this, log into the WP-Admin dashboard directly – you should have received an email from Bluehost with your admin user account details when you set up your site with them – and then reconnect Jetpack under your site’s actual domain. Once Jetpack is reconnected, you’ll be able to interact with it again via your WordPress.com account.

If you’re not sure of your login details for WP-Admin, please contact Bluehost support directly for help with that.
