Generate list of top posts all time/this year by view
-
Thought as year came to a close that is would be neat to see the top ten posts of the year by views. I am not sure if there is a way to generate that list either for a given year or all time for a blog.
Any ideas?
Thanks

No, there really isn’t any automatic way. You could filter your stats by “year” and then create a post or use a text widget to put up the list. What you will likely find though, if you look over your stats like I have, that the top ten or so will virtually never change. The top ten for my site for the past 4 years running has been exactly the same. If fact, the top twenty only differs by one or two from year to year. I’ve also noticed this same thing on several of my client’s sites, so it isn’t just me apparently.

The reason top posts never change is because even when you filter by the Year, it shows all the top posts from the beginning of your life of the blog. So you have to manually look through each post links to see which posts you made in last year, and if they showed up in the list.
I’ve been blogging for several years and I do see that the stats reflect the top posts accurately. It is just that the yearly filter is not really an exact yearly filter as it shows all the posts from day one.

how do I even generate a list of top posts. I can see views for each post on a given day and total views for a post as well. But I don’t even see how to generate the list you mention.
thanks

Go to Dashboard – Stats.
On the right hand side, in Top Posts & Pages section, click on This Week link.
Click on Year link (other options are 30 days, quarter, All time).
