Generated export XML file is too large

  Hi,

  I tried to export my entries month to month. Some of the files are too large: the standalone blog which I use as a kind of backup “theoretically” can handle files up to 8 Mb, but practically if the file is heavier than 3 Mb the system hangs for many hours (?!?) and I can do nothing more, grrrrr. In export interface of the console the smallest backup I can choose is only 1 month backup.

  Is it possible to split the files for weeks or so? Some people like me juat like to whrite in blogs :)

  Are you trying to export from your WordPress.com or from a self-hosted WordPress installation? If you want I can create the export file from http://gabblgob.wordpress.com/ and send it to you. Please reply to confirm.

  I am trying to export from WordPress.com. There is no problem to create the file. The problem is the created file is too big to be “swallowed” when I try to import it with my standalone WP :)

  If you could split the October 2010 and Januar 2011 files in smaller size files respectively, e. g. 1.10.2011-15.10.2010 and 15.10.2011-1.11.2010, so every file will not bigger than 2 Mb, that would be great. So maybe it is possible to implement a feature “week from/to” in export plugin, though I have no idea if it is possible :(
