  I was locked out of one of my wordpress sites and googled for help from wordpress. A company that at first blush looks like it’s part of wordpress came up: GeometricBox.
  They’re scaring me with ‘you’ve been hacked’, etc. and asked for $100 to have their people retrieve my site for me. My reply to them is unprintable here, but I got on live chat with my domain host and solved the problem for free in a matter of minutes.
  Have any of you heard of this company or dealt with them?

  The website design company you mention is unrelated to WordPress.com. I’ve never heard of it before or seen an add or offer from it that I can recall during many thousands of hours of blogging on WordPress.com. But I’ve used Adblock Plus for several years.

  I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to so we can verify where it is hosted. Please do that now.

  I suspect the OP is referring to a wordpress.ORG software install. If that is the case then he or she is posting to the wrong support forum.

  For as you and I know:

  We provide support here only for WordPress.COM hosted blogs.

  We do not provide support for WordPress.ORG software installs.

  As that site is not hosted here at WordPress.COM, our support docs are not relevant, and you are posting to the wrong support forum.

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

  Musicdoc1: The point of my post is that I realized they were not related to wordpress and want folks to think they are, then try to stick them with a bill for services that they don’t need. I posted to give others info so they don’t fall prey to these folks.

  Anyone can set up a content retrieval business and I think this thread would better placed on the wordpress.ORG support forums than here.
