Geotag location

Oops, I pushed block and now it says it can’t find my location. How can I turn it back on?
    Thanks, all!

Thanks, timethief. But none of those links addressed the issue of selecting block then wanting to unblock – any other suggestions?

I assumed you simply undo what you did. When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Thanks again! There is no option to undo or rechoose. There is now a red background bar with a white circle that has an exclamation mark in it that says ‘We couldn’t find your current location.’ If you type a location in the search area and select it, a map appears with the location indicated, but you get the same bar. I’ve clicked all over the red bar hoping it would give an option to choose to use it, but nothing happens. This is important to me because it is a gardening blog and the location is all about the weather.

Thank you for the modlook thing. I’ve never used this before, so had no idea what that was about.

  • Hi, it sounds like what you’ll need to do here is adjust your browser’s settings. The browser is what passes us the location information and each browser maintains a list for you of sites you allow or disallow from accessing location information. It looks like you’re using Google Chrome, could you try going through these steps and ensuring WordPress.com is set to “Allow”? Thanks.

Thanks, Andrew. I checked the Chrome settings and see nothing about geotags, locations. Do you know what heading they might be under?

Since the button I pushed was in WordPress, I think it is a WordPress issue. There needs to be an undo button or some kind of option choice that can be changed as needed. Some posts need a location, others don’t.

    Help!

  • Hi there. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

You press the geolocation button in the post editor, yes, but then our system asks your browser for the location data. If you have blocked this data in your browser, our system can’t override that. Browser settings trump website settings in all cases, so it simply not possible to add an undo button to the website for this. The way your browser works prevents us from doing this.

If you’ve blocked WordPress.com specifically for location sharing, you should see it listed here:
    chrome://settings/contentExceptions#location

Also make sure that under the Location heading at this link you have the second option selected:
    chrome://settings/content
