Get blank screen when trying to move site from wp.com to godaddy-hosted wp.org
-
I am trying to migrate my wordpress.com site to a wordpress.org hosted on godaddy.com. I know you have one-click migration for other hosts, but I already have other sites with godaddy so want to stay with them.
I have read every direction and many of the support articles and requests, and nothing has solved my problem.
After exporting the blog xml file to my hard drive, then attempting to import it into the godaddy wordpress.org site, all I end up with is a totally blank screen. No menus, no error page – nothing.
I saw somewhere that I shouldn’t be trying to use the RSS file, yet when I download the xml file, it is actually RSS.
Where did I go wrong? What do I do next?
Pointing me to the standard tutorials probably won’t help me – I’ve read them. I even had godaddy on the phone with me for one hour. Your turn! :-)
Thanks,
CynthiaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The file you export from WordPress.com (Tools -> Export) should be a .xml file. The file name will read something like this:
yoursitename.wordpress.date.xml
Is that the file you’re getting? If you open try to open this file, it may look very similar to an RSS feed in that it will have all of your posts.
Can you let me know if that is the file you’re getting when you export? Also, what is the address of your self-hosted site?

Hi Jeremey – Yes, the file I get is an xml file. My site is http://www.wereallrelative.com.
Thanks.

Hi!
Currently, your site is still pointed to your WordPress.com blog. In order for it to display the content setup at GoDaddy, you would need to change the name servers as explained here:
Can you give that a try? This way, we’ll be able to see the content that is currently available at GoDaddy.
