Did you buy the domain here at WordPress.com and cancel it within the 24 hours you’ve owned this account? If so the domain will be released within a week and available to purchase again elsewhere.

But the title of this thread says “get domain name back”. If you bought the domain here and wish to recover it here then you could do that and point it to wherever else you liked. Share more details of your plans as I see this thread has been tagged for staff assistance.

    Hi there!

Is this for the domain ririrecords.co.uk? Cancelling a domain does not make it immediately available to repurchase elsewhere and for .co.uk domains, you would need to wait a year before the domain is released back into the marketplace.

Here are the available options for you:

Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.

Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here, buy an annual plan, skip the domain option, then update us here.

With regards to “transfer it to a different website” – is the site under your account or another WordPress.com account? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

Let us know which way you’d like to proceed. Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes the domain name is ririrecords.co.uk

If I repurchase the domain, is it possible that I can then transfer it to a website on webflow that I currently have? Or do I ask go daddy support team once I get the domain back?

  • Hi there,

It is not possible to transfer a domain name to a new registrar within the first 60 days after it is recovered. This “60 day lock” is a requirement set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and is observed by all ICANN-accredited registrars.

    See: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/text-2012-02-25-en

Because this is a requirement that we must adhere to by law, it is not within our control to lift this 60 day lock for any reason.

However, you are not bound to use your domain here on WordPress.com; it is possible to have it “point” to your self-hosted site instead. Once the domain is recovered we are happy to help you set this connection up.

That will allow you to get set up and move forward with your host, and then you can finalize the domain transfer after 60 days are up.

Do you still wish to recover ririrecords.co.uk? Thanks for confirming.
