Get my site back

  • Unknown's avatar

Originally I paid someone to create my site. After some time, I asked them to give me access to the account to manage it all myself. They did. I have access. However, my site is hosted under their umbrella. I want to manage my site and do everything through and with WordPress directly. They don’t do anything for me or with my site anymore at all. They have been paid in full for their services. They are wanting to charge me for hosting the site. I’d prefer to work directly with WordPress. How do I get the site out of their umbrella and switched to a business account under my own name and no longer associated with their business?

    Hi balancehealthnola,

How do I get the site out of their umbrella and switched to a business account under my own name and no longer associated with their business?

Which site are you unable to access? If you send me a link to it, I’ll try and point you in the right direction.

    Thanks!

    Hi!

I can access my site. As in I can log in and make any changes, add blogs, and just about anything else I need to do. I have my WordPress password and login.

The problem is that the group that designed the site put it under the umbrella of the their business. I believe they manage and develop many sites. They want to charge me $350 for hosting for 2018. WordPress doesn’t charge that much. They are up charging me to do nothing other than to keep my site up. They say if I don’t pay them, I’ll forfeit the site. That doesn’t sound correct.

    My site is BIHNOLA.com

    Thank you so much

    Hi Lena,

Thanks for the link. bihnola.com is a WordPress.org site hosted by HEG US, rather than WordPress.com. There is some information about the main differences in this guide:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

We are only able to help with access to WordPress.com sites hosted on our own servers. bihnola.com is hosted elsewhere so we have no control over it. You could try contacting your hosting provider to see if they have any advice but failing that, speaking to your web developer would be the next step.

Help and advice with WordPress.org sites is also available on these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

Best of luck getting this sorted.
