I am contacting you on behalf of the Kubuntu project.
I am a member of the Kubuntu Council and the Kubuntu Romania Representative.
We have found that the domain kubuntu.wordpress.com was already taken and we have tried to get in touch with the person we thought was maintaining it, but without success.
This is why we ask you. Could you help us get in touch with it’s owner? And if by any chance the owner does not reply, what could we do in order to obtain that domain?
Since the domain reffers to our project, and (we believe) was registered by a fan in order to promote our project, we believe that we should be able to let it continue to do that, since we saw that there hasn’t been any activity on it since 2013.

Do not tag this thread for Staff intervention as they cannot and will not approach the owner of the URL on your behalf.There is no expiration date on .wordpress.com blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. In the case that there is no contact information or you do not get a response to a contact form submission or to a comment on the site, Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

I understand the privacy issue, and I understand why they cannot divulge the owner’s email address.
However, I would still kindly ask them to send the owner a message, since there is no contact form, that we would like to talk to him/her.
I don’t think this would breach any kind of policy or agreement.

There is a process for the owner of the blog referred to here “(we believe) was registered by a fan in order to promote our project,” to transfer the blog to another username account.
