Hi there!
You can switch your theme anytime. Go to WordPress.com > My Sites, then under Personalize click Themes. On that page you can browse and switch to a different theme.
You can also browse the themes here: https://wordpress.com/themes/
Let me know if you have any questions!

You don’t seem to understand. I don’t want a theme at all. I want my blogsite to look how it did in the first place, before I started experimenting with themes. It seems to me that all I can do now is just change to another theme.

I understand. All sites here must have a theme selected so that they know what/how to display your content.
When you’re browsing themes within your site’s dashboard, you’ll see them all there and are not able to remove any (as they are not personally installed on your site, but rather available to all WordPress.com users).
Before Affinity, you had Sketch for several months. If you would like to use that one again, you can find it here (and click the “use this theme” button at the top): https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/
