  At the top of my website it says ‘Create your website at WordPress.com.’ How can I get rid of this?

  That is one of the adverts WordPress.com displays to help keep free sites free. You can remove the ads by upgrading to a Personal plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

  how does this help? it’s just makes the site look cheap and it helps no one.
