get rid of footer?

I notice a new feature on wordpress blogs: an annoying, useless footer that pops up from the bottom. Is there any way to get rid of this on my own site? So many web sites have added these annoying things that pop in from the sides and bottom to distract the reader and cover up part of the text. I want it gone!

Annoying, yes, but we are not allowed to remove the footer credits at wordpress.com. Doing so could result in a site being suspended.

Note that “disabling” the infinite scroll feature does get rid of the pop-up but results in a “Load More Posts” tab, and you can’t disable that “Load More Posts” tab from appearing without the Custom Design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
