Get rid of “This page has the following sub pages.” text?

My blog is welcomebabydoulas.wordpress.com and it uses the Misty Look theme.
I set up a static front page, and so I ended up getting a duplicate “about” page. I followed the instructions to hide my duplicate “about” page by going to Attributes and making another page its parent. The problem is that my duplicate page is still visible because at the end of the page that I assigned as its parent, it says, “This page has the following sub pages.” and then lists my pages that’s supposed to be hidden.
How can I hide that text?

That is coded into the underlying theme template for Misty Look and we cannot edit our underlying templates fro our themes at wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/What you do need to get rid of is the header image you have because it’s watermarked to prevent copyright violations. You must either purchase it or use an image that you do have the permission from the copyright holder to use.

So basically that means that it’s impossible a static front page on the Misty Look theme and, without having duplicate pages show up?
I’m not keeping that header image. But I just set up this test site and I wanted to see if the header image would fit before I bought it. Surely that’s permissible use of a watermarked image.

I did some testing via http://browsershots.org/
It appears that my code is not useful in MSIE 4 through 6. Either the text you mean to hide is at least partially visible or the sidebar gets pushed down.(strange !!?)
In IE 7, there is only the tiniest little artifact of type showing.
In IE8, I couldn’t get a screenshot of the relevant part of the post.
Anyway, here is the code:
