'Get Shortlink' button not appearing on Draft pages
-
While setting up content for this month’s upcoming “issue”, I discovered the “Get Shortlink” button no longer appears in the editor on Draft pages; the button only appears on posts that have actually been published.
The button used to appear after a draft was saved, and we used that functionality to link together pages before publishing them. Is this a recent change to WordPress.com or has something gone wrong somewhere?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just figured it out. I had disabled the Jetpack plugin and that is what made the Shortlink go away. Once I reactivated Jet Pack the “Shortlink” button is back. Hope that helps! –b

Yes, I apologize about that. I’d realized the post was to the wrong forum only after I had submitted it.

Hi Raven – You are in the right place, because your blogs are WordPress.com blogs. The Get Shortlink button is still there, though – I see it on this post:
https://lovecraftzine.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=14593&action=editAre you still not seeing it? If not, can you please try an alternate browser to rule out a browser issue?

Hello eurello,
Glad I DID post in the right place afterall!
I do see the button on that post, but it appears that’s a “post” draft, and I am having this problem with pages. See here: https://lovecraftzine.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=16385&action=edit
There’s no “Get Shortlink” button on any page draft I’ve made, like the above. This wasn’t the case in the past — we had the GS button on page drafts — so we’re lost as to what might have happened/changed or how to fix it.
For the moment I’m kludging by briefly changing the visibility of the page to “private”, using the GS button that appears thereafter to build the ToC for the issue, then changing the page’s status back to unpublished draft.

Also, I’ve checked in both IE and Chrome, and the same issue occurs in both of those browsers.

Hi Raven – Ok, I see that there isn’t a button for draft pages. I honestly don’t recall if there was one previously, I can’t find anything about it being changed. However, you can still get a shortlink for draft pages:
Preview the page, and in the drop-down menu of your admin bar, there’s a shortlink you can copy:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/admin-bar/#blog-menuIt won’t work until you publish the page, but it will be the same shortlink when you publish.
