Get stuff where it belongs and make it look like it is supposed to…

    I am getting older and older… now up to 62.
    I used to be good at figuring out software…
    I also used to be a lot younger.
    Nowadays I am just getting stupider and stupider…
    I have spend DAYS trying to get what I want by reading your support pages and fumbling around… often making things worse.
    RIGHT NOW, if you take a look at the above site, I’m trying to org Reviews/Pages into Menus.
    What I really need at this point is another option on the Pages Page of Dashboard to Bulk Move grouped pages to specific MENUS… or another way to do it…
    If I try to add Pages to Menus on the Menus Dashboard, the Pages are not grouped or identified in any Parent Child manner, so I don’t know which Menu to add them to…
    All things being usual for me I’m probably trying to do something simple the absurdly difficult way…
    Your Documentation is not organized the ways I’m used to, and my brain cannot make any sense of organization out of your support pages and unfamiliar buzzwords.
    Can you recommend any over-the-counter medication that will help me?
    Or maybe you could just look at my page, figure out what I am trying to do, and recommend a cure for that.
    I am going to stop thrashing in the quicksand for a minute and have a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon before they come and get me and take me away like a giggling virgin. I know that doesn’t make any sense, but here we are. What’s really scary is that it makes perfect sense to me.

  • To do that (group pages into a drop-down menu), they need to be dragged under the parent item, then each drop-down item dragged slightly to the right.

    See this for more info and a video tutorial: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    To quote your instructions is what can be done AFTER I DO WHAT I ASKED YOU HOW TO DO, and is therefore a non answer. I HAVE PRINTED OUT THE SECTION YOU REFEREED ME TO, and watched the video. No help on either case.
    Think there might be ANYONE there who can understand what I need?

    You MIGHT want to look at my page to see what we are talking about.

  • At Appearance -> Menus in your Dashboard, there’s a box called “Pages” to the left. You need to select the pages you want to add to the menu and click the “Add to Menu” button.

    Then, you can drag them around.

    Re Read my initial inquiry. What you just told me to do does not solve my problem! The PAGES in the MENUS mode of the Dashboard are NOT IDENTIFIED as to which MENU (5 Stars Menu, 4 Stars Menu, etc) so I have no idea what to do with them. The PAGES in the PAGES mode of the Dashboard are ordered and sorted, and identified by Parent Child Order. What I need is to be able to ‘select’ proper pages in the Pages Page and Drag them to the MENUS page in order to insert them in the proper MENU. I KNOW IT CAN’T BE DONE THAT WAY. I’m really stupid but I’m not that bad. YOU, not knowing (for some reason) what I am doing, are only flapping your lips and passing wind by telling me how to do something that make NO SENSE in relation to what MY CASE IS. How about asking me some questions to find out what and why you don’t understand my problem. Please quit telling me to ‘do this’ and ‘do that’ when it makes no sense to what my situation is. Have you visited my Page? Do you see what I am doing?
    Can you see my Pages and Menus?

    It looks like you have multiple menus created on your blog. However, your theme only supports using one menu at a time.

    For example, the menu that is currently listed as active on your site is “Movie Reviews and Ratings.” You can see this by going to your Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus page and taking a look at the menu name that appears in the drop-down menu under “Primary Navigation.”

    What you’ll need to do to group all of your pages together is to select one menu, i.e. “Movie Reviews and Ratings,” and add additional pages to that menu by following these instructions:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages-to-your-menu

    Then, you can move these pages into sub-menus by following these instructions:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-of-menu-items-and-creating-sub-menus

    The primary thing to keep in mind is that you can only use one menu at a time. To avoid adding pages to a different menu, make sure that you don’t click on any of the tabs that appear at the top of your “Menus” module.

    I hope this helps to clarify!

    Thanks for the valiant try.
    No joy.
    I’ll explain it again.
    My reviews are PAGES.
    My Review/Pages are indexed by Parent/Child for FIVE divisions: 5 Stars, 4 Stars, etc.
    I need my reader to be able to go to 5 Star movies and see a menu for those, or 4 Star movies and see a menu for those, etc.
    IN THE MENU EDIT WINDOW Pages are only identified by Title. I have no way to identify the Star rating for sorting purposes.
    Your solution does not get me where I need to go.
    The best I have come up with so far is WYSIWYG at the bottom of the HolywoodVille page: The Menu titled All Reviews .
    NOW, if I could collapse that Menu into the Five sections with the subsections of Star value being Pages, we would be getting somewhere,
    OR put up 5 Custom Menus, but then I’m back to the sorting problem I mentioned above of distributing the appropriate Pages amongst the 5 Custom Menus. It doesn’t matter if I have 5 Sections in 1 Menu or 5 Custom Menus, the Pages in the MENU EDIT Window have no identifiers as to where they belong.
    If I am still not making sense or just not understanding what you are trying to communicate to me, let me know.

    Just for giggles I did what you instructed.
    Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ahhh.
    What a mess.
    What do we do now? The Watusi?

    So fer, what I am doing is going ok. I am transfering my gazillion reviews from Netflix to Pages here and every time I publish one, batta bing batta boom, it goes into the Menu I am using. Automatica! Gazonga!
    NOW if I/we can figure out how to collapse the Menu into the five categories, you will have truly ENGINEERED some HAPPINESS today.

  • Alright, let’s see if I have what you want right. I’d like to put it together for you, so that you have an example to go by later.

    Right now, you have just one menu item: Reviews & Ratings Defined.

    How would you like your menu to appear? Please illustrate it like the following:

    Menu Item 1 -> sub-item 1 -> sub-item 2 -> sub-item 3 -> Etc.

    Menu Item 2 -> sub-item 1 -> sub-item 2 -> sub-item 3 -> Etc.

    and so on

    Gee I didn’t even know that was a menu or a menu item. I thought it was a page… like all my other pages are Reviews.
    What I want is what you can see at the bottom right of my front page/site:
    What I have now is a STATIC listing of all Pages/Reviews by Parent/Child structure.
    What I want is a way for the USER to choose the Star Level they want to see, then to be able to see those listings. There are now 300 Reviews I have written on Netflix, which I am transferring to WordPress. There will be many more as time goes on and I write more reviews for my private collection. The list is going to be very, very, very, very, very long.
    What I want is:

    Menu Item 1 = 5 Star Reviews -> Sub-item 1 to Sub-item ~ = All 5 Star Review pages.

    Menu Item 1 = 4 Star Reviews -> Sub-item 1 to Sub-item ~ = All 4 Star Review pages.

    Menu Item 1 = 3 Star Reviews -> Sub-item 1 to Sub-item ~ = All 3 Star Review pages.

    Menu Item 1 = 2 Star Reviews -> Sub-item 1 to Sub-item ~ = All 2 Star Review pages.

    Menu Item 1 = 1 Star Reviews -> Sub-item 1 to Sub-item ~ = All 1 Star Review pages.

    What I want is a Menu with 5 entries/divisions/categories/whatevers
    and Sub-Listings under each of the 5 entries/divisions/categories/whatevers
    of Page Titles for the User to choose from.

    and so on

    Maybe it the Theme I am using here. I don’t seem to have a problem getting things to work on my other Blogs. I do like the Theme and would like to keep it, but functionality trumps like, every time. If I have to choose something else to get what I need, so be it. On my Mac A Doobie page, everything works fine, but I hate the stuff that shows up on the face page by default. I may have to dump that theme. I wrote to the author. Let’s see if he answers. I have a feeling I will have to give him some Euros to work the problem. Not going to happen.

  • Wow, that’s quite a list.

    I can’t get all of them in there today, but what I have done for you is set all 1 – 5 star menus with their first three movies.

    What you can do from here is go to Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard. From there, go to the Pages box just to the left, check the desired reviews, then click the “Add to Menu” button. After that, just drag around like the examples and click the blue Save Menu button.

    MacManx,
    You are done here. Your menu sample is great. You solution, you may have discovered, is not a good one. The only prayer of getting your system working is to wait until I have as many Reviews posted to pages before trying the agony of jamming them into your Navigation Menu then sorting them into their categories. There is no way to tell which pages in the pages list have already been added. Maintenance is going to be a real headache filing new pages by category and alphabet. But it looks good, and is what I needed.
    C’est La Guerre.

    Vaya con Dios mi amigo.
