getting a non “.com” domain from wordpress

  I would like to get a domain directly from wordpress, if I put http://www.domainname.it (not .com)in the box at dashboard > settings > domain I get redirected to a site that teels me about problemsolving in redirekting, I definitly know that the domainname is available. do I have the wrong approach? please help switching from http://www.domainname.wordpress.com to http://www.domainname.it
