Getting a normal domain with wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

So I registered for a domain with wordpress. I have another website that was http://www.waynescherer.com and I wanted to transfer it over to wordpress so I can reformat it and use the wordpress tools. However, it looks like the ipower.com host only installed wordpress software so I can’t tell if the address is actually hosted on wordpress or not. I went through a transfer process a while ago but now my waynescherer.wordpress.com and waynescherer.com are different websites. Also, looking at My Sites, it doesn’t have waynescherer.com listed. I’m getting very confused when I just wanted the address to point to wordpress and get rid of mmy old site.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

It looks like you have successfully mapped your waynescherer.com domain to waynescherer.wordpress.com

When I am accessing these both domains, I am getting pointed to the same website. You can start customizing your site. The site name which shows below “My Sites” depends on which domain you have set as Primary.

When people will enter https://waynescherer.com/ or https://waynescherer.wordpress.com/ they will be redirected to https://waynescherer.com/ only if that domain is set as Primary and in your case, it is already redirecting this way.

Let me know if you have more questions.

  • Hi there,

“WordPress” is not a host. It’s just the name of the software. If you have WordPress installed at ipower.com, then you’re using the open source version of that software and your site is hosted with ipower.com, not WordPress.com.

Your site at https://waynescherer.com/ is hosted with us on WordPress.com, though – you transferred the registration for that domain to us in July and it’s connected to the WordPress.com site, waynescherer.wordpress.com.

I went through a transfer process a while ago but now my waynescherer.wordpress.com and waynescherer.com are different websites.

I see the exact same website at both those addresses.

There is a second site in your account, though, https://waynescherercom.wordpress.com/. Could that be the other site you’re seeing? That site is also on a paid plan, but does not currently have a custom domain connected to it.
