getting a subscription account name

  • Unknown's avatar

I and my husband have our page here at WordPress, and were considering getting the annual subscription to have a name without the WordPress in the address, but he and I both were wondering how that would effect the people that look for the site using the old address ‘@wordpress.com?
Would they all need to be notified of the change or will they still be directed to the site after we add the new address under the paid subscription.
Please let me know if this makes sense, lol.
    Thank you, Cathy Treffler

    Hi there!

After you upgrade your site to a WordPress.com plan, register a custom domain, and set that domain as the primary address, the WordPress.com address will redirect to your custom domain automatically. So your visitors who go to the WordPress.com address will automatically be redirected to the new domain, which will be the primary address on your site.

Visitors won’t necessarily be ‘notified’ of this change, but they might notice when the redirect happens. This is all automatic and means you will not lose any existing visitors/subscribers.

Have you decided on a WordPress.com plan for your site? If not, we can help you choose one. Let us know more about the features you’re looking to add to your site, and we can suggest the best plan for you.

If you mainly want to use the custom domain, the WordPress.com Personal plan is a great starting point that will let you choose your own domain and set it as primary. It will also remove ads from your site and allow additional storage space in your media library. You can upgrade using the button below.

    Hope that helps!
