To access your FTP login information for a website hosted on WordPress.com, it’s important to note that WordPress.com does not offer FTP access for their hosted sites. FTP access is typically available on WordPress.org or self-hosted WordPress websites, but WordPress.com provides different ways to manage your site, such as through their dashboard.
However, if you have a Business Plan or higher on WordPress.com, you do get some additional features like the ability to add custom themes and plugins and SFTP (Secure FTP) access. Here’s how you can access it: Steps to Get SFTP Access on WordPress.com (for Business Plan or Higher ):
- Log into WordPress.com :
- Go to WordPress.com and log into your account.
- Navigate to Your Site :
- In your dashboard, select the website for which you need the SFTP details.
- Go to Settings :
- On the left-hand menu, click on “Upgrades” and then select “Hosting” (or you can search for “SFTP” in the settings).
- Find SFTP Details :
- Under “Hosting”, you’ll see the SFTP section. This section will display the necessary details, such as the SFTP hostname, username and a generated password.
- Note : The login credentials (username and password) will be unique to your site and cannot be retrieved directly like FTP details.
- Use an SFTP Client :
- To connect via SFTP, you can use software like FileZilla or Cyberduck. Enter the SFTP hostname, username, and password to establish a connection to your WordPress.com site.
- Upload or Edit Files :
- Once connected, you can upload or edit files directly on your site using the SFTP connection.
Alternative Methods for File Management :
- If you’re unable to access SFTP or prefer not to use it, you can use the WordPress.com Customizer or Theme Editor to manage your site.
- You can also use the Jetpack Plugin (for the Business Plan) to add additional functionality and manage files through a connected site.
