Getting an X after cropping my avatar image Help please

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok I have an avatar already showing up and I wanted to change it because I dont like it. So I uploaded a different one and even reduced the size changed the image name several times to try to get it to take but I keep getting the same results.

    Heres what happens.

The upload is succesfull and then I get to the crop image page and so I do that and then when I get to the next page it shows my avatar as 3 boxes all with an X in the middle and no image.

PS my old avatar is still showing up so for whatever reason this is not working lol the image is only 12kb.

    What should I do?
    Thanks

lol well the image just showed up after I made the above post so it worked. Must be a code error in the upload but either way the image I wanted is there.

The threads in the forum search box indicate there’s a display delay due to caching when you change avatars. Usually they show up here in the forum first and some time later in other locations.

The poster would be getting the default instead of a red x though.

Not sure what the issue could have been. Glad to see it’s working for you now though.

    hmmm … I didn’t know that … noted.

    Not a problem. :)

Just also for reference, the red x is a sign that the user is using IE. Most other browsers will put the title or alt text in there instead.

I’m seeing a red x now on my Your Profile page as well.

Hopefully it will be back in the morning.

I get the same. I tried uploading an avatar yeaterday and again today and it’s not showing up…

Unless it shows up now when I post this?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Well it did, how weird…..
    Thanks!

The images are cached. It takes a bit for them to show up. We think 30 minutes here in teh forums.

My image was fine. But 3 days ago it disappeared and was replaced by an “X”. I did not change it, touch it, rename it or anything. What could be causing this?

P.S. An image on a page – it’s the same as my avatar, which shoes up fine, as you can see.

Mark emailed me back and said that staff is looking into the avatar issues.

    Hello drmike!

Any progress? My image is properly cropped and uploaded, I can send it to the editor, but it still won’t show on my page. (I get a big red X). I tried reposting it in vain.

    Thanks for your help!

I’m sorry to hear you are still experiencing this problem. :( drmike says above: “Mark emailed me back and said that staff is looking into the avatar issues.” I believe when he has news to share he will post it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually Mark said that they were resolved awhile back. We had another thread on the subject. (which is one of the reasons why I don’t like multiple threads on the same subject)

Ironica, which page are you seeing the red x on? What should your avatar look like? (I’m seeing a south park like viking) Browser, browser version, and OS please.

Hello! I’m very sorry about the multiple thread – I browsed a lot of “images” issues before I posted my message but none of them were helpful.

My avatar is actually okay. I’m seeing the red “X” instead of an image – which is the same as my avatar – on this page: http://vousirezvoirmonblogue.wordpress.com/tu-veux-ma-photo-banane/

I’m using Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft Windows XP (2002).

Volunteers on the forum including our Moderator drmike do not have back-end access to blogs. You have already sent in a feedback. drmike has already sent in a feedback. Staff has said they are onto this matter. It seems what’s left for you to do is to wait patiently until staff get back to you with a solution. :)

Actually you’re not linking to your avatar in that post but to an image that you’re uploaded. Please check the link as I get a 404 error when I try to pull it up.

If you want and don’t plan to change your avatar for quite some time, you can use this Link instead.

Note to TT: ironica isn;t looking at his or her avatar. It’s an uploaded image file that’s missing.

    … :O now I get it …
