Getting back an expired site

I had a beautifully designed site but didn’t renew wordpress premium in time. If I renew my purchase and get back my domain will it revert back to the site I had built? If not is there any way to get it back? Please help, I really need to get the old site back up.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @sarascannell,

It is possible, but you have to understand, once you let a WordPress.com Plan (upgrade) expire, it can result in unwanted site changes and can be difficult to regain use of.

For most TLDs registered through WordPress.com, an expired domain falls into a grace period for about 10 days to two weeks. During this short window, the domain can be renewed at the regular price.

Is sarascannellmusic.com, whose last blog entry was from 2014, the site you need help with? If not, please let us know the site address involved.

Thanks for your patience while Staff revert to you.

Hi! Yes – that is correct. I never really used the site for blogging, more to house music.

  • Hi there,

Your domain, sarascannellmusic.com, expired on 24 July and has just been removed from our system. The mapping upgrade and Premium Plan you just bought can’t get the domain back. I’ll instead need to email our registrar to restore the domain. There is also a possibility that the domain is already in redemption, in which case we’ll need to pay them an additional fee to get the domain back. I’ll let you know what they say when they reply to my restoration request.

Looking up your domain’s DNS history it also appears like you were actually using it with a site with Bluehost:

    http://research.dnstrails.com/tools/lookup.htm?domain=sarascannellmusic.com&date=

Does that sound at all familiar? If so, I can help you point the domain back to Bluehost once it’s restored, but then you also actually don’t need the Premium Plan with us. Please let me know where that domain is supposed to be pointed, and once it’s restored I’ll make sure it’s working, and refund you for any upgrades/payments you don’t need to have with us.

  • Our registrar has restored your domain. It hadn’t entered redemption yet, and the renewal cost is covered by the Premium Plan you bought.

Now I just need to know if you want to use this domain with your WordPress.com site or a Bluehost site.

Thank you so much for your help. I am honestly not sure – I am checking with the person who designed it for me and will post again in a few days.

  • The thread will stay open, so just let me know once you have the information on this :)
